Mourinho takes himself out of the running for Everton job
Mourinho was hired by AS Roma after he was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur last year and is already under a degree of pressure with the club sitting seventh in Serie A, outside the European qualification places.
A report in Italy yesterday claimed that Mourinho had rejected the notion of talking to Everton about succeeding Rafael Benitez at Goodison Park and Sky Sports, having trumpeted the fact that the 58-year-old was high on the Blues' shortlist this only afternoon, are now echoing the suggestion that he has no interest in the position.
Sky report that Mourinho's camp say he is "committed to the job he has begun at Roma and will not consider any offer from Everton at the moment."

You know what these journos are like.
Vacancy at a Premier League Club - who is avaiable and who is under pressure at the club they are at currently?
2+2 = 5.
Rumour.
Gives egos' like his a chance to turn us down before even being asked.

His record is best fighting the aristos not being one of them our chippy bitterness and hatred of anyone and everyone would be an asset to a man like him.
Trouble is he can spot a duff deal a mile away which is a pity because he could have reignited this club in 5 mins flat if Mosh hadn't blown the kitty and loaded the BMD albatross around our necks.
The return of relative penury rules out the likes of Jose.

If he even now needs to hear it, there's a limit on the level of incompetence true fans can endure,

It could have been written word for word about Everton just with the names changed. Inherited a bad squad, no concentration in defence. Absolutely not what we need here.

Most established mid-tier managers (below managerial Royalty like Simeone) seem to last about 18 months or so. If we hire someone from this tier, like Garcia or Fonseca, we're hiring someone with a track record of being sacked. We're not hiring a squad builder or someone who will create a dynasty. The same goes for a guy like Mourinho who just doesn't have the drive anymore (I don't really buy the idea he is now outdated tactically).
Arsenal might have shown us the way forward with Arteta - picking up a coach rated exceptional and then sticking with him through thick and thin.
It is high risk too though, because Arteta might have taken us down before we saw the rewards of some patience.
There are excellent coaches out there like Dortmund's Terzic who was strongly linked to Palace and Spurs.
If we go down this route then we need to reinstate the DoF model and, maybe more important than the new manager search, replace Brands.

Megson, McClaren, Hughes, Pullis, Pardew, Bruce, Brown etc.

Last time we won the cup we had an ex Everton player as manager.
Why is it that many people on here don't like the idea of ex Everton players coming in as manager?
I know the game has moved on. But it seems that people with an affinity for a club tend to last longer and are less likely to be drawn away by the lure of (say) Real Madrid. This in turn makes it more likely that you will get the chance to see planned progress.
This is a no-brainer for me. Big Dunc in charge until the end of the season, which I am sure he will take. He doesn't strike me as having a Big Sam style ego that would need an 18-month mega contract.
Review meeting in May to decide if he stays in charge or we phone Derby.

It's probably coincidental more than anything, the esx-Everton player connection. What I do know is Rooney and Lampard ain't stuck in the past and like attacking football. So does Duncan; it's just we've never seen him manage a team over a period of time.
I'm just glad it won't be Mourinho.

Let's see how Dunc and his assistants can do before making any rash decisions this time eh Mosh!.
Really looking forward to the Villa clash now, just believe Blues and put a shift in please.

I have always maintained that Mourinho, even in the early days was a good Manager, ' was ' being the operative word. However he was also a chequebook Manager and lucky enough to be at Clubs where he was almost given a blank one. I also believe there is a certain element of luck in that too !
Going out and buying the best players in the World, is no guarantee that they will all be able to play together as a unit ! Maybe I am discrediting him unfairly, but I won't be shedding any tears that he has declared he will NOT be joining us.

There's too many at Everton... that's the problem!
37 Posted 20/01/2022 at 11:39:23
If only Everton could look past the blatantly obvious. I believe Ange could turn around what is honestly now a train wreck!

Every day, we always seem to hear that Moshiri's latest crush is a 'Hollywood' manager. We've been shafted by Ancelotti, conned by Benitez and we still keep looking at more of the same!
Martinez (again!!!!), Mourinho – the absolute busted flush who seems now to be on the verge of a separation from Roma! Then we have the mini-Hollywooder, Frank Lampard, who would only be using us as a stepping-stone to get back to Stamford Bridge!
Fortunately, we have not been threatened with the spectres of Allardyce, Koeman and Rob's (#27) list of unemployed perpetual failures:– Megson, McClaren, Hughes, Pullis, Pardew, Bruce, Brown etc!
I am surprised that Moshiri's all-time fave has not been mentioned, ie, Marco Silva, who seems to be ripping up the Championship with a team that cannot stop scoring goals!
