The 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, postponed from last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is underway in Cameroon. Everton's only participant, Alex Iwobi, is a member of the Nigeria squad.
Nigeria top Group D with three straight wins, and advance to the Round of 16, where they will play one of the 3rd-place qualifiers to be decided by the last two group games on Thursday 20 January.

Yes, I did notice that Iwobi was played the entire 90 mins. What is interesting is that he came on as a sub in the last minute of injury time in the 1st Nigeria game, then he came on as a sub in the 2nd half of the second game and he played the entire 90 mins of the third game! Maybe he got more time in the 3rd game to rest the preferred first teamers.
Also interesting was that Onyekuru (remember him?) came on in the 85th minute. Iwobi and Onyekuru played the final 5 minutes together. Yippee!

Nigeria are my favourite African team. By the way, we need Iwobi to return in good shape and motivated as we will need him for the latter stages of the season. You never know, he might just surprise us all?
