FA U18 Premier League

The U18 Premier League replaced the Premier Academy League at the start of the 2012-13 season with the aim to enhance youth development and help transition players between the Academy and First Team.

The 2020-21 Under-18 Premier League is the sixth campaign of the top tier of the Under-18 Development League, with the total number of teams increased to 26 split regionally into north and south groups. Teams face their regional opponents both home and away before the top two face each other to determine the national champion. The 2019-20 season was aboandoned in March 2020 owing to the Coronavirus pandeic, with Machester City declaerd champions based on their point per game record.

Age requirement: Clubs are not allowed to field any outfield players outside of the U18 age category. However, the goalkeeper is permitted to come from the U19 age category.

The 13 clubs in the North Group of the 2020-21 U18 Premier League are:

Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Sunderland, Stoke City & Wolverhampton Wanderers

The 13 clubs in the South Group of the 2020-21 U18 Premier League are:

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leicester City, Norwich City, Reading, Southampton,  Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwhich Albion & West Ham United.

New Everton Scholars (U17s) this season are:  Luke Butterfield, Eli Campbell, Katia Kouyate, Mathew Mallon, Stanley Mills, Issac Price, Thierry Small, Jak Stewart, Reece Welch, and Charlie Whitaker.

Everton's young Blues recovered from a shock early goal against to come back and win their first U18 Premier League game of the season at Finch Farm.

The goals came from Sean McAllister and Charlie Whitaker before and after the break, respectively.

After a nervy and tentative start that brought the shock of falling behind to a goal from a Blackburn defender inside the opening 120 seconds, Everton rained in 20 shots on their opponent's goal but were denied time and again by a combination of sound 'keeping and last-ditch defending.

McAllister eventually headed beyond the keeper to bring Everton on terms in firt-half stoppage time.

Whitaker replaced Cannon 7 minutes after the break and duly completed the turnaround, climbing to meet McAllister's delivery and divert past the goalkeeper to secure a fine 3 points for the start of their league campaign.

Paul Tait's Under-18 side secured a draw at Manchester City in their second game of the season.

After giving up and early goal in the second minute, the Young Blues got back in the game with goals from Sean McAllister (22') and a penalty converted by Tom Cannon (33') and thought that would take them to half-time. But their hosts had other ideas, scoring an equalizer in the dying seconds of added time.

There were no further goals after the break, Everton holding on for a well-earned point.

Everton Under-18s maintained their strong start to the season with a 4-0 victory over Stoke City at USM Finch Farm.

Everton never relinquished control after taking the lead on 19 minutes when Whitaker swept in following Warrington's delivery. The best early chance nevertheless fell to the visitors, Everton keeper Zan Luk-Leban forced into a smart save.

A ball sent over by Warrington from the right-hand side of the area found its way to Whitaker for a cool finish into the bottom corner. Boosted by their goal, the home side continued confidently and had a second just 5 minutes later. A short corner resulted in a clever low cross into the area, with a deft touch from Whitaker doubling the Blues' lead.

Everton took charge after the interval and soon stretched their advantage. A well-timed lay-off from Whitaker allowed McAllister time to shoot into the bottom corner for his third goal from three games.

With Everton limiting the Potters to very little in the way of chances, the game was all over by the 72nd minute. A smart ball into the right channel allowed Tom Cannon to use his pace and trickery to play a perfectly-weighted ball to the onrushing Warrington, who confidently struck into the left corner.

Burnley 2 - 3 Everton

Everton's Under-18s pulled off an impressive fightback to beat Burnley. Thierry Small struck two late goals as Everton Under-18s recovered from 2-0 down to win a thrilling encounter 3-2 against 10-man Burnley and extend their unbeaten start to the season to a fourth game.

Tom Cannon began the fightback with a 70th-minute penalty after the home team had struck either side of half-time.

Burnley opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark. Leban pulled off a fantastic save at the front post but couldn't the rebound beiing buried.

Burnley doubled their advantage 1 minute into the second half. But the referee reduced Burnley to 10 men 20 minutes into the second half.

Tom Cannon halved the deficit from the spot, having struck the post with an effort moments earlier. Katia Kouyate could have levelled the score as the game entered the last 10 minutes but his effort was parried.

Everton equalised with fewer than 5 minutes remaining with Small on hand to finish a saved shot.

The full-back won the game for Everton in added time, advancing onto a ball on the the edge of the box to score with a fine drive.

Everton U18s hosted a Liverpool side at USM Finch Farm on Saturday that seemed determined to avenge senior matters from last weekend, destroying the Blues unbeaten start to the U18 Premier League (North) season.

The Young Toffees, who have won three and drawn one of their opening four matches, came from two goals down to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory at Burnley last time out.

But Everton U18s went behind early on, giving up two goals in 2 minutes, and at half-time they 4-0 down. Defender Dylan Thompson replaced Tom Cannon at half-time to prevent the mauling continuing in the second half.

Everton Under-18s fell to a 2-0 defeat at top-of-the-table Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

The home side took the lead 17 minutes in before doubling the score just after half-time. The young Blues carved out opportunities as they strived to battle their way back into the game but could not make a breakthrough.

An hour before the senior sides do battle in the Premier League, their Under-18 teams took to the field at the Aon Training Complex for their U18 Premier League fixture.

But the result was equally disappointing for Blues fans, with the youngsters losing 2-0 to a pair of goals in the second half.

Everton U18s took on Derby County at Finch Farm as the U18 Premier League resumed after the International Break.

Goals from Lewis Warrington, Lewis Dobbin and Thierry Small sealed the win for the Young Blues in an impressive performance.

Warrington broke the deadlock just before half-time, striking an excellent shot from a free-kick.

7 minutes after the break, Everton doubled their lead, Kouyate dancing past two defenders before picking out Dobbin in the penalty area who poked the ball home from close range.

Small then sealed a fine win, advancing into the Derby penalty area and delicately chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Everton Under-18s beat Leeds United 3-0 in a rearranged U18 Premier League game scheduled for earlier in the season that was played at Finch Farm on Tuesday night.

Lewis Dobbin threatened to score in the opening minute of the match when he curled a long-range shot just wide. His looping header then bounced off the top of the Leeds crossbar.

It was third time lucky in the 25th minute, McAllister picking out Dobbin at the far post. This time he made no mistake and calmly slotted home.

The impressive Sean McAllister then doubled the Toffees lead right on the stroke of half-time when he picked up the ball midway inside the Leeds half, drove forward and fired low from 20 yards into the bottom corner.

The young Blues extended their lead 8 minutes into the second half. Tom Cannon hitting a sumptuous strike into the top corner with his right foot.

Charlie Whitaker nearly added a fourth for Everton, but his deflected effort was pushed behind by the keeper.

Everton U18s took the lead against Wolves into the second half on Saturday, only to give up two goals. Each side scored late on to make it a 2-3 home defeat for the Blues.

Everton U18s took on Burnley at Finch Farm on Saturday but could not recover from a first-half setback.

The visitors took the lead after 19 minutes. A left-wing cross was clinically headed home into the bottom left corner.

Reece Welch was sent off for a poor challenge with 10 minutes remaining.

With the U18 Premier League resuming after an extended Christmas break, goals from Katia Kouyate and Charlie Whitaker were enough to put the Blues in the driving seat.

A first-half opener from Katia Kouyate was enough to give the young Blues the lead at half-time. And, despite an equaliser from the hosts early into the second half, Charlie Whitaker bagged his third goal of the season just past the hour mark to give Paul Tait's side all three points.

Some new names coming off the bench for Everton: Roman Quintyne, Issac Heath and Jenson Metcalfe.

Everton U18s: Leban, Mallon, Small (27' Quintyne [Y:57']), Hagan, Thompson, Butterfield, Whitaker, Jagne (80' Heath), Kouyate, McAllister [Y: 33'] (90+2' Metcalfe), Warrington.

U17 Premier League Cup

The competition is new for the 2020-21 season, replacing the Under-18 and Under-16 versions from previous seasons, and offers an opportunity for some of the younger members of the Academy to play in competitive games.

The U17 Premier League Cup feature seven regionalised groups - each consisting of four teams - with Everton in Group F. The teams play each other once, either home or away, totalling three group stage games. The other two sides Everton will play are Wigan Athletic and Manchester United.

Once they're done with the group games, the winner of each group plus the one best runner-up will advance to the knockout stages. There will be quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final, all of which will be one-legged games to decide the winner.

Everton kicked off their participation in the new Under-17 Premier League Cup with a win after coming from behind to an early goal from Burnley this evening.

The Blues went behind after 35 mins but Stan Mills got them back it with an equalizer after the break and he went to add a second that steered the outcome Everton's way. A fine night for the youngsters was rounded off when Tom Cannon got on the scoresheet 2 minutes from the end to seal the win.

Their second game in the group stage of this season's revamped Premier League Cup saw Everton U17s fall to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

No match details are available but the scorers where Katia Kouyate and Luke Butterfield. Everton still lead the group on goal difference thanks to their victory over Burnley in the first round of group games.
