Price is the latest long-term injury woe in the Academy

Everton youngster Issac Price is slated to miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture of the hip.

The 17-year-old midfielder who had been rocketed up to the senior subs bench for some games last month, was mysteriously missing from the U18s side that lost their FA Youth Cup quarterfinal tie at West Brom last week.

It now turns out he is the latest in a long line of players to suffer serious injury this season. Everton U23 team-mate Sebastian Quirk also underwent surgery last week as injury misfortune at academy level continued to spiral.

Price and Quirk join Astley, Kouyate, Iversen and Onyango on the list of long-term absentees as the end of the season approaches.

This doesn't sound good. Anyone know how one would get a stress fracture to the hip ? Hope it doesn't take long to heal and isn't a structural weakness that would hold him back. He looked promising in the one game I saw him play.

Not a big deal. It's actually quite commonplace in sporty, growing adolescents and Isaac is a fast-growing pencil thin 17-year-old. My hyper-active sporting lad had a stress fracture at a similar age.

Best remedied by rest and looking at his training regime. Has he been pushing himself too hard having impressed for the U-18s, been promoted to the starting XI of the U-23s and even featured on the bench for the first team?

As Jay says it isn't that uncommon an injury, but the severity of the injury depends upon what caused it and what part of the hip is affected.

People with a hip stress fracture are most often high-mileage runners, military recruits, or individuals doing significant impact sports activities. People will typically complain of aching groin pain that bothers them with activity and is relieved by rest. Symptoms are usually noted after a recent increase in the level of activity, such as increasing running mileage.1

As an ex-cricketer, a stress fracture of the hip, is a classic fast bowler's injury... from slamming down the front leg in the delivery stride. Maybe he has 'jarred' it in some way or other.

That's it Brent. Thanks for that. I thought it sounded encouraging - as though there's a concerted effort to get our most talented lads ready for the first team.
