A bit of fun...

Based on the current set of players, assuming they’re all fit, Who would be your best starting XI and why? What formation and, assuming they all stay fit, where would that starting XI finish in the Premier League?

I’d go for, in a 4-3-3 when attacking but transitioning into a 4-4-2 when defending...

Pickford
Coleman, Godfrey, Holgate, Digne.
Davies - in the holding midfield role
Allan, Doucouré
James, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison.

Godfrey and Holgate together would mean we don’t have to defend deep, Allan and Doucouré would hunt for the ball and look to turn over possession in the opposition half.

Richarlison would fall back to left midfield when we are defending to make 4 midfielders. James would do whatever James wants to do!!!!

I reckon this starting XI, if they all stayed fit, would be on par with Man Utd and Chelsea, battling it out for 3rd. Not good enough for Man City's or Liverpool’s first XI, but better than Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal.

Over to you...

Kev, after yesterday I suspect you'll be one of a very few nominating Holgate.

I think that could be our strongest eleven Kev, although I think I’d prefer Mina (if he could stay fit) alongside Godfrey, and I’d prefer to see us set up as a 4-5-1, especially out of possession!

I know it’s only one game, (they look like beating city today) but Chelsea are looking like an excellent team, and I think they might be title contenders next season, alongside both Manchester teams.

Tony. I thought Chelsea were looking pretty good with Fat Frank as manager. Under Tuchel they’ve gone up a level and have an excellent squad with plenty of options. Like you I expect them to be strong contenders next season.

That's a good team. Whatever first XI anyone picks will have plenty of flaws though. I'd probably leave out Holgate for one of Keane or Mina. And in some games I might swap out Davies for Sigurdsson. He might be short of pace, but he's got plenty of end product.

I expect Colin G will be trying to shoehorn Ballon D'Iwobi into his starting line up somewhere.

I would always argue that team selections should be based, to a large degree, on what team you are facing with defence based on stopping their attackers and attack selected to exploit their defence. Taking defence as an example, if we are facing Burnley with two strikers and plenty of crosses coming in then I would want Keane, Mina and a covering defender in a three at the back. Against Tottenham-who are a one man team- with Kane dropping deep then I would have wanted a three at the back but with one being Godfrey as a man marker following Kane everywhere.

Kevin’s team looks best to me with Mina to replace Holgate if we need more height. Holgate has suffered through being too versatile and needs a regular position with a regular partner.
