What a finish.

I'm looking forward to the Italian national anthem later, but have to admit the Russian one is stirring.

That's funny. I downloaded both on Itunes last week. Lol. I've no connection to either nation but the music is very rousing

A great goal by the best player on the pitch,a fair game so far.

I recall Finland beating Russian once before. It was one of those snow affected games, orange ball type. It was the winter of 1939 I believe.

Poor 2nd half...and now to the main game in Baku.

Come on Wales...3 points please.

Brilliant goal. Give Ramsey enough chances and he finally finishes one.

It was Bergkampesque. He has real quality, just terrible luck with injuries.

A good 1st half, what a ball from Bale... massive 2nd half to come.

Matthew are you Welsh?

12 Posted 16/06/2021 at 18:05:25
The Land of My Fathers. Now there's another rousing anthem.

That may have been a great ball from Bale, but what a take from Ramsey.

Danny O’Neill
13 Posted 16/06/2021 at 18:20:24
Well, catching up on the last two minutes.

That's a close decision. If the defender catches the other leg is it a free kick? One leg in the box one outside?

Come on Wales.

Bale does a Chris Waddle.

Oh dear. Has that penalty from Bale come down from outer space yet?

Mourinho is probably having a chuckle at that one

You have to wonder how much real control even the greatest superstar footballers really have over their moving parts. Let's just wellie it in the general direction of the goal and hope for the best?

Also Michael, no matter what stage you've played on, pressure gets to everyone maybe and has an effect?

Excellent! his transfers alone are worth getting him in.
Alonso, Torres Mascherano Crouch Bellamy Barry, this chap knows the wheat from the chaff. We are in safe fat hands

Michael @16

I think these floater balls they use now have ruined it. When I was a kid with a proper leather ball, you had to hit it very precisely to get spin or curve. On these balls you can just toe punt it as hard as you can and it spins and swerves all over the place.

A while back I was having a kickaround and we put an obstacle to the left of the goal and kept moving it further and further to the side just to see how often a toe punt would spin Roberto Carlo style around the cone into the net. There was nothing skillful about it but there's no way you could do that with the proper old balls.

Handbags over nothing. In fairness after the initial contact, the Turkish forward only taps the lad on the face to check he's okay. Not sure why the Welsh player who reacted got so agitated by it.

Yes Robbie (Savage), keep it in the corner!!

Get in Wales.

Who are these Welsh guys? . They're brilliant!!

Robbie Savage can get fucked with his "keep it in the corner cowardice" - well in Wales

A magnificent TEAM performance...well done lads.

Always fucking hated taking the ball into the corners to waste time, why not go on to SCORE!!!.

Morrell MOTM for me,ran his bollocks off (our Midfield should take note).

Very Happy and now to watch, for me are the best team in the tournament...Italy.

A bad worker always blames his tools Kieran! although Bale more than made up for that with his performance tonight, in a really refreshing game of football.

Wales have a favorable route. If they finish first it's the runner up from the Netherlands group, if they finish second it's the runner up in the Belguim group. Either way the last 16 looks more winnable than England's options

Bale apologizes for missing the pen, whereas that r.s prick doesn't care missing his for England.

Says it all really!.

Get in the Taffs.

Thoroughly enjoyable performance. There were times when Ramsey and Bale seemed to be using telepathy in that first half

Harsh on the handball although I did think it was a foul.

Great forward running by the player to tap that in.

Italy are looking good.

I'll be very surprised if this Italian team don't reach the final,a quality side throughout.

Very good Italian team. I doubt this is a concern, but the only one its that teams that excel in the group stages of tournaments burn out. But what a great side.

Another good run out for the Mancini's Azzurri though it is hot and due to rise towards 40c by Sunday when Italy play Wales. Here in Rome we are still a bit chilled about the whole thing, I was in the fan village earlier today mixing with the Swiss fans.

Normally the Italians would be clamouring about how great we are but people are celebrating the goals and the result but not taking anything for granted. Lets see how we get on against a France, a Belgium or a Portugal though Switzerland are no.13 on the FIFA rankings.

The nice thing about this team is that they really are a team, everybody plays for everybody else (look at their celebrations). Tonight the nicest thing was how Locatelli and Berardi linked up for the first goal. These are lads who have played together through the youth team and first team at Sassuolo, which is a bit like two lads from say Bournemouth playing their skins out for England. I also like Spinazzola of Roma who is possibly the best left back in the competition good defender but an excellent attacking option on the left, reminds me of Fabio Grosso who was a sensation at the 2006 WC.

Jealous of you being in Rome, Aidan. My next annual trip is scheduled for end of August all being well. I loved my 2 years out there and now have a life-long connection with that part of Italy.

Cheering on the Azzuri and the Germans, but I still back France to win it.
