Enjoying a whisky watching the Villa game. No wonder the RS scored 7. Palace will surely go down.

I don't normally comment on other teams... But one Jack Grealish for Chrimbo please!

Superbly balanced footballer.

Jim Bennings
3 Posted 26/12/2020 at 16:58:21
Watching Villa tear Palace apart, the thing that stands out is their movement off the ball compared to how pedestrian and slow we are.

Grealish has developed into an absolute gem of a player and they seem to all know their jobs in the Villa side under Dean Smith.

An established England midfielder who doesn't hide and can unlock a defence with a pass?

We don't do them weird types!

Tony Everan
5 Posted 26/12/2020 at 17:17:31
Jim, watching Grealish vs Crystal Palace too.

Grealish has gone up a level this season, he is an outstanding player. He made Zaha look like a poor relation today. Aston Villa pulled off a master stroke tying him down but the likes of Man City will be bidding massive money for him before long.

Agreed D. Me and the lads just been talking about his poise and confidence.

When was the last time we had a player who could take the same by the scruff of the neck like that?

Maybe this season isn't that unusual but there have already been some strange defeats of apparently very strong teams. Inconsistency rules.

Made up for Arteta, even more made up for me. I took 19/5 for the Gooners.

Chelsea are shite

Watched the Leicester City v Man Utd and wondered what the commentator was smoking, describing Man Utd's second goal from the pass from Cavani to Ferguson, he described it as a work of art and an Immaculate Conception of football. I know it is a religious time of the year but I thought that was a bit over the top.

West Ham v Brighton is dull.

Moyes playing 5 at the back with 2 holding midfielders against Brighton at home?

Big Sam Luddite punished within 11 minutes for playing 6-4-0.

If you'd offered the big fella 0-1 at half-time he'd have torn your arm off. Get ready for the controversial leveller at 75 minutes and Klopp to lose his mind at full time.

You can call Sam Allardyce what you want but he has gone to Anfield with a plan. A point there won't stop them being relegated but it will inspire his players to greater performances. Results are all that matter at the end of the season. Ancelotti is doing the same with us. Points over performance. No point playing 3 up front if you can't keep a clean sheet. Klipperty will be entertaining in his interview... 🤣🤣🤣
Eddie Dunn

The after-match Radio 5 Live phone-in might be worth a listen if the nation's heart strings can bear it!!!

And now a call from Peterborough. It's Elaine from the Priory:
“How could they? (Sob) how very dare they? (Sob, sniff, breakdown)”

Dale, they will blame it on Pickford. Virgil van Dijk would have been there to head that cross away.

Who would have thought... 3 points behind after 15 games. Hardly unlucky as they only had 2 shots on goal to West Brom's 3. Outmanoevered by "Fat Old Sam". Also great to see Kloppshit lose his cool most of the game.
Thomas Richards
45 Posted 27/12/2020 at 18:42:09

Jason Wilkinson

Nobody expected 6-4-0.

No, Jurgen. We expected a 4/5 nil win against the team in 19th place. Palace rolled over at 0-3 last week. West Brom weren't gonna come and be cannon fodder. Ask Carlo how you beat the teams at the bottom. 🤣

Rob Halligan
52 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:10:23
West Brom should do the honourable thing and line up in the good old fashioned 2-3-5 formation, and let the RS win about 10-0. It would only be fair, wouldn't it??
Dale Self
53 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:11:06
I thought we were just referring him as VD Rob. Arse fans are already struggling to make eye contact much less talk about results. I imagine I'll be observing some RS twitches in the near future.
Cmon Nuno, make it a no-no for the REST of the top 6 excepting Shiteh.

Thomas Richards
56 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:14:18

As you know they have done it for decades.
Team turns up and plays open football, gets beat 5-0 and its " we played against a proper football team today, they try to play football as it should be played"

Anyone doing the opposite and getting a result ls a philistine.

Paul A Smith
57 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:28:44
Big Sam knows how to get points for a grim side. Play to your strengths.

I wouldn't gloat at that result as far as looking at the title race, its funny regardless.

Mike Keating

Would like to congratulate our former manager (the tubby one) on his return to top-flight football - any chance he could be persuaded to splash out on Tosun one more time?

BTW - anyone know which would be the best global channel for tomorrow's game?

Ray Roche
59 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:31:35
I made the point to my red ‘friends ‘ last week when they were moaning about VVD being absent ( due to Pickford 😳), Liverpool's goals against is better this season WITHOUT VVD than it was with him, but more importantly, Fabinho moving into defence has allowed Curtis Jones to flourish. They're too thick to work it out, despite banging on about Jones.

I love Big Sam.❤️

When Klopp loses either a game or his temper - for instance when his sense of entitlement clashes with reality, as happened today - his comments betray a petulance and lack of class.
Rob Halligan
61 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:40:15
Mike, it's being reported in the Red Echo that Allardyce is considering a loan deal for Tosun. Should he go, then we need to be looking at bringing in another forward.
Danny O’Neill
62 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:45:59
I've said previously it will be interesting to see Klopp under pressure. You can see by the character there is a Vesuvius waiting to go off there.

His last season at Dortmund was interesting. Going into the winter break they were hovering around the relegation zone. Recovered to finish something like 7th, but stained his record there.

He's all false smiles and fist pumps when going his way but volatile when it doesn't. The sign of a winner maybe, but I'm always suspicious of people who laugh and smile when they're angry.

64 Posted 27/12/2020 at 19:48:28
Re the West Brom match today, the manager of Liverpool is a disgrace to football. Every time things don't go his way, he looks on the verge of a mental breakdown. He is so lacking in sportsmanship, and so prone to temper tantrums, that he brings the image of the game into disrepute. Utterly obnoxious character.

Spot on Stan, he is a typical flat-track bully. Praises and patronizes gallant losers but hates it when the diving, cheating filth he has created don't get their own way.

He is the perfect specimen for that club.

Eddie Dunn

Stan- absolutely- I wonder when the media love-in with this freak will end? He is a manipulative, bully and that smile is psychotic.
Jason Wilkinson
69 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:15:15
The Premier League is about playing the right teams at the right time. We played Spurs opening game. We played well but I also think Spurs were only at 80%. The RS have just dropped points to a West Brom rejuvenated by Allardyce. How long they keep that fight up is debatable but I'm glad we weren't playing them. We beat Fulham (narrowly) just as they started to find some form. A week later we might have lost that one.

Let's hope that we are playing City at the right time. Before they start scoring for fun.

4 matches to halfway in the season. Could we be the leaders? A win against City and it is very possible.

Andy Meighan
70 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:24:12
Jason, how do you get to the conclusion that Spurs only played at 80% in that first game?

The way I saw it was we were by far the better side on the day. We also had 3 players making their debuts, a tough ask considering it was a place where we normally struggle. Give credit where it's due.

Oh and we won't go top if we win tomorrow, Liverpool have got a superior goal difference. But what a dilemma to have.

Brian Murray
71 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:36:22
Hope Sam's dream forward kind is Tosun with Bolasie supplying and Besic biting in midfield – are we still paying him?
Brent Stephens
72 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:37:15
Stan #64, well said. Contrast that with Carlo's demeanour, win, lose or draw. Some see it as lack of emotion or concern. I see it as something long lost from the game, being magnanimous.
Ricky Oak
73 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:42:14
Just got to vent, you see what Spurs are getting away with, again? Foul in the box, no pen. Winks on yellow, another yellow type foul, no foul. Time-wasting, diving all over the place, with squeals, free-kick everytime.

Actually boiling my blood, oh and, kicking ball away once ref finally does blow, no yellow.

Corruption at its finest.

The media have ruined the game of football, it's definitely about if you're one off the loveys now. Apologies, just do not know how to highlight this bullshite.

Mike Keating
74 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:44:22
Rob - thanks for your response; I hope we can get more than a loan move for Tosun as he doesn't fit our ‘system' whatever that is.
Patrick McFarlane
75 Posted 27/12/2020 at 20:48:13
I don't want Big Sam scuppering our chances of adding Zaha to our squad we can use Tosun, Bolasie, etc as bait for Roy Hodgson?

Brent @72, absolutely. Though I do recall he had one minor meltdown with a ref. Was it after Calvert-Lewin's disallowed goal against Man Utd last season?
Brent Stephens

Tony, we'll let him off with that one? In fact praise him - rationed emotion is more effective?

The Richarlison incident with Bailly and Fernandes.

"What was your take on the incident?"br>Carlo:
"I didn't see it."

Can you imagine the Liverpool manager's reaction if it was Salah or Mane?

Tony Hill
84 Posted 27/12/2020 at 21:52:24
Indeed, Brent. He carries himself with such class.
