And Chelsea draw at home with Southampton. Not bad, eh.

It seems Walcott was MotM for Southampton?

Isn't Wallcott only on loan and will not be able to play against us next week.

He's played against us for two years, Bill.

He won't play next week, though.

Well, the Goal of the Year competition is over already. Lanzini's got the trophy. Spurs 3-3 WHU. Amazing.

Great last 10 mins in the Spurs West Ham game.

Mike, another contender might be Ademola Lookman's for Fulham earlier today.

Congratulations David Moyes, I'm actually looking forward to MotD tonight, and hoping for a high scoring draw in the Villa Leicester game. No doubt Klipperty will demand that neither team is awarded any points because er. van Dijk, VAR, Heysel (oops didn't mean that one)

Villa trying to do a Leicester? Just avoid relegation then win the league?

Ross Barkley just scored the late winner against Leicester. Man does he look good. He's grown into quite a player.

Just watched it, Kieran - late Barkley run & shot from outside the box into the corner. Only standout thing in a very tight game.

Who knows where things are going this season.

Did you see Moyes going full on Klopp mode for a celebratory pitch invasion v Spurs? Never seen him look so lively.

I did, Keiran. He called it David Pleat-like himself afterwards...

Lookman scored today as well. Ex-Everton players earning points today.

Just watched motd Spurs v WHU. They showed the game and goals. Spent a minute replaying and discussing the WHU comeback. Then longer fawning over Harry Kane. That wasn't the story. The story was the comeback. Sheesh.

To be fair to Barkley, we probably miss the kind of central midfield player that can carry the ball and shoot. I don't think he was ever really a Chelsea type player, some players suit certain teams better.

James is an unbelievable footballer but it would have been interesting to see Barkley back here on loan for the season to see how he fared with Ancelotti.

Lookman is just Lookman isn't he, had talent but seemed to always play the game like it was a chore, not an enjoyable experience.

Jim, I really like Barkley. Martinez got the best out of him by accepting his talents outweighed his flaws – and letting him play with the shackles off. Villa seem to be doing similar.

He's never going to be right for an absolute top side because they can afford talent without the flaws (and the flaws cost points too). But he's great to watch when he's on his game.

It was interesting watching Lookman yesterday. To me, he was his usual frustrating self: blind alleys, taking on one too many, etc. but then there was the bit of class for the goal.

I would argue that, in a team with more resources, he would have been hooked long before he scored the goal but of course that's always the dilemma with those types of players.

Well, well, well, a certain Jamal on TW is entitled to a smug "I told you so" expression today. Both his recommendations - 'bring Barkley back, bring Lookman back' - scored 2 excellent goals. Plus, Sandro scores his customary 1 goal of the season!

Lookman looks like he'll do well. He may never be a top-6 level player, but he'll be a fan favourite for whoever he plays for. Nice skill, great cross, occasionally runs into players and into nowhere, but he doesn't stop. He was never given a proper chance at Everton so good luck to him.

Barkley will do well. Again, maybe not quite a top 6 player. When he's got space to charge forward, he's dangerous. But he doesn't quite have the vision of the best players. However, I'd love to have him in place of Gomes in our midfield.

Harry Kane is in imperious form. He's more a no10 now, and his passing is Jamesesque. England need to find a way to play both Kane (in a deeper role) and DCL as the no9.

Fran, I do actually personally think that Barkley is a top 4 player. For what it's worth I also feel Vlasic, Moise Kean and Lookman were never given enough minutes to prove themselves.

I'd take Barkley over Gomes every day sad as it is to say.

I was never Barkley's biggest fan I always thought he lacked a football brain but in Martinez final season he was fantastic running forward with the ball and think he scored something like 12 from midfield, there's no denying though that Martinez got the best from him.

Gomes for me offers nothing at all, doesn't really create, doesn't shoot, never scores, he's a lovely fella but I think his time will soon be up under the new regime Ancelotti is building.

Outraged at everything David, even a little bit of scouse cheek, from our little Frenchman.

I've seen better from Gomes than currently, Jim, much better. We all have too, in his early days here. I hope he can recapture it.

I was always a Barkley fan but as time passed I begrudgingly had to acknowledge that his range of abilities became narrowed, more by seeing that he didn't make it at Chelsea than his time here.

Watching him now at Villa however, I suspect he's found himself the ideal home in that midfield and I think we'll see some admirable stuff from him. Ironic that he may be an ideal weapon with us as we are now, and under Carlo, but probably not as an automatic every-game choice. We'll never know.

How good is it that this as been such an exciting start to the season across the board and we're top of the pile. It's certainly starting to worry the RS media.

I'd love us and Villa to go head to head all year and us win it with a couple of games to go. (Not sure I could sit through a last-day nail-biter...)

I would say, on the contrary, that Vlasic, Kean and Lookman were all given plenty of time to prove themselves... and sadly they did prove themselves – not good enough.

Or, for the speed readers: "Championship players".

Fran. Lookman WAS given a chance at Everton just like he was given a chance at Leipzig.
The fact that he's out on loan should tell you something.

Never would have pegged WBA to be involved in the first 0-0 of the season. 0-7, 0-8, or 0-9 maybe but never 0-0 with their backline.
