Coutinho 'offered' to Everton on loan

Hmmmm.

Even at ⅔rds of his £250k wages, that's still £165k a week, there is also the small matter of a loan fee. I can't see such a deal happening that would cost the club nearly £15M just for 1 season, it would be madness considering that the wage bill is currently higher than the turnover.

It's still the silly season as far as transfer speculation is concerned.

We don't yet know what form the transfer window will take. We also don't know what financial impact social distancing is going to have on the sport and the way clubs operate.

Players earning this sort of money may become a thing of the past. Until we have a clearer picture, I'll continue to stay calm when I read any padding and filler stories, which all this sort of journalism is.

Whilst he's another one I'd probably say no to purely for the money... the players we're linked to are a big step up from Silva's era..

Imagine 12 months ago being seriously linked with Coutinho, Rodriguez and Thiago Silva...

Might sound daft but Ancelotti would need to change his whole system to accommodate him and that could just end up negating all the hard work done with the likes of Calvert-Lewin.

The reason the top 4 clubs do well is down to a few things. One big factor is the quality of the players. We can bridge the gap with astute signings as Leicester have done and with player development as Spurs did under Pochettino. Both take a bit of time.

However, I am not averse to the addition of some top quality if available. Coutinho is a fabulous player. If we have the opportunity to bring him in even on loan and he is motivated to come, then great. The cost is then something for Moshiri and Usmanov to worry about.

I think we have some kind of cosy arrangement with Barca to advertise the players they want shifted. They are like our ‘twinned' Spanish friends, a lot of reciprocal backscratching going on...

I have been thinking for a while that Barca have been keeping us very sweet because they want first option with Richarlison in a year or two. Whether it's a load of bollocks or not, we have to be alert and clever and do what's best for us.

Countinho is a gifted player and would grace any club. Where would he fit in with us though? Right midfield? Or as a No 10 with Richarlison pushed wide right?

What would the right to buy price be? The last thing we need is to invest and support in a player for a year, bring him back to his best, only for Barcelona to auction him off to the highest bidder. Or to then use him as a makeweight part-ex for our star man.

Thank them for their very kind offer but unfortunately we cannot take up their offer at this time. Then buy somebody Mr Ancelotti might want and who might be worth a lengthier contract. If they can't find a use for him then why would we?

Alan J, are you serious? Look at their lineup. Then look at our lineup.

Rent him and stick him right in the middle of the pitch, where he can spread some quality passes around.

And just enjoy the sight of Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin putting goals away from a real top-class playmaker.

Depends who else comes in.

If you can move on Sigurdsson, Walcott, Schneiderlin, Bolasie, Sandro – then yes, bringing someone of that quality is a major upgrade.

Add in some up-and-coming players, and things will look quite different.

Sorry, Mike (#9), but not on those wages (plus loan fee?) on a temporary basis. I'd prefer to know Mr Ancelotti's long-term thoughts after these season-ending nine games rather than pointless loans that won't pay their way by lifting us from 12th to 5th or 6th, cash-wise.

Him, Richalison and Bernard in the same line-up? As long as there was a solid centre-midfielder added to shore up the middle.

But, with Calvert-Lewin and Kean, there's some decent attacking players in there with options to change it up. There's still Sigurdsson and Iwobi too.

Totally agree, Mike. And I don't think we should turn our noses up at a one-season loan. If he's really motivated to come, then great.

It might buy time for someone like Gordon to become more of a fixture in the first team.

It also allows us to recruit up and coming players without hurting the first team while they bed in. In fact, it's probably easier to bed in with top quality players around.

If we sign him, James Rodriguez and Thiago Silva and no-one else then it's a bad plan. But one motivated star + some youthful promise is probably a good plan.

John @2, let's look at it another way, you say it will cost Everton £165k a week, yes that is a lot for a player on loan.

Is it worth laying that amount out fora quality player.

Well when you look at Schneiderlin who is getting £100k a week, if he does go to Nice then you are looking at around £65k a week extra for an upgrade.

We are getting one off the books and bringing one in for example the last year of Schneiderlins contract, who to be honest, we thought we would have sitting on his contract until next season.

So to free up £100k a week, gives us the option to make that upgrade for the season, Coutinho can bring so much more to Everton, link players up in attack, and give us that little bit more attacking options, than the slow build-up play we have at the moment.

It could be a risk worth taking, if other options are not willing to come to Everton.

Why are some against this? The fact we are even linked speaks volumes. I'd be shocked if Coutinho wanted to come to a bang average Premier League side. He would have the number one selling shirt in the club shop!

I know the money's a lot but think what he would bring in terms of marketing and publicity. And Everton is easier to sell to other top-class players when players see they'll be playing with players of his standard, as opposed to Delph, Walcott etc.

I agree on his talent, but we'd be his 5th club.

I haven't really paid attention to why his career has gone sideways since leaving the Premier League, but if he could even roughly replicate his form for Liverpool, he could be exactly what we need.

So what happened to Gabriel, Thiago Silva, Allen, the other lad from Brazil, James Rodriguez etc...? Now we're linked to an ex-RS who no-one else seems to want.

Of course Coutinho's a wonderful talent, a proven one. But a 1-year loan at a wage-scale shattering salary, at the end of which he's 29? No end that benefits Everton.

Our various dealings with Barca since Roberto's moves for Deulofeu is the only reason for this nonsense anyway. We both know it's not true.

Fraser adds pace, skill and tenacity to our mid-field. However often and sad our recent misfortunes are, Everton remains a big Club. Dormant yes, big nonetheless. My view is we'd get Ryan's best.

For Philippe, given the clubs he's played for, Everton would just be some club he kicks a ball for wages.

Coutinho, No.

Fraser, Yes.

I'd take him on purely to piss off our loveable neighbors.

Coutinho on loan for 12 months. That'd take us to a point whereby most of Walsh's duds are off the books and we can actually have some FFP wiggle room to spend on someone more long term than Coutinho.

Coutinho is not perfect. He's got flaws and particularly he goes missing and gets kicked out of games too easily. However, on his day, he's truly world class. I'd be pleased if we took him on loan for £165k a week and no loan fee.

If we did sign him, then we'd need to switch to a 4-3-3, so Carlo would need to be firmly on board and have a team ready for this system.

We'd still need a pacy right-sided player (Fraser on a free?) and a centre-half and a centre-midfielder.

I think the £15M is best used towards someone on a longer contract and with possible resale value.

At his best, he is top quality and, with our Brazilian contingent, it could be a goer.

Whether the player will fancy playing for us being an ex-Red, who knows? However, I think he will fall in love with Everton if he comes, like they all do.

Absolute waste of money. I'd rather put that money towards trying to get Danny Ings. We need an out-and-out goalscorer. We've got enough Number 10s surely.

James, 22, I think the benefit to Everton might be lots of goals and assists?! Perhaps more points in the league? An enhanced reputation as a place where top players can shine? Enhanced reputations of our other players who've produced more due to playing alongside someone of Coutinho's ability? I'd quite like Ryan Fraser on a free as well, but there's no comparison between the two players.

Andrew, @5, Ancelotti is not one of those managers who can only play one way. He has regularly changed system to accommodate players. I remember reading somewhere what he did to fit James Rodriguez into the Bayern team, it would be something similar in this case. A good coach creates the best team; however, it needs to be done, they don't have to shoehorn players into their own pre-existing system.

Mike (31) - I'm not questioning Coutinho's skills and abilities.

Fraser's a fine and productive player. He'll suit us better.

Dan Nulty @ 28. I agree with you to a point but Ings didn't really get a chance at the RS due to injury and, let's face it, they're pretty good with loads of options up front.

Tonight's game proves I'm right, though, in that we need a goal scorer. Someone who can be totally in and out of a game but knows how to get us a goal.

Would love to see Dennis Adeniran given a run at some point in the run in. Was surprised to see him not make the bench last night for the derby. 2 Goalkeepers? Really?

Imagine Carlo having to sell playing with Fraser to Rabiot or Allan for example, and then imagine the difference when you swap Fraser for Coutinho in that conversation.

That's not forgetting the massive gulf in class and talent.

Couthino however at the right money could be a good deal.

I am baffled that Everton want to pay a £20 Million loan fee for one season with Barca wanting closer to £25 Million, but are willing to sell the player for £63 Million.

Let us just say we agree to £20 Million, then take another year at £20 Million, that’s £40 Million for a player that is not ours.

Why don’t we try to the haggle the £63 Million asking price.

I know people will say he is in his late twenties and think about no resale value, but if we can get a good 4 to 5 seasons, then you then have to ask would you use the money to buy Coutinho or Allen for around the same price.

I can only think the reasoning is down to Barcelona agreeing to pay a third of his wages, if we take him on loan instead.

We are desperately missing a creative maestro in the middle. Plus Coutinho is hungry and who knows, maybe his loan becomes permanent based on quality performances. He is a proven player with loads of experience at the highest level.
Yes, we are rebuilding, but we also need a good balance of leadership from veterans.
This deal can also be used to draw other "wantaway" talent who are looking for fresh starts and challenges.
Everton are certainly on the up. I wouldn't imagine players like a Coutinho, Rodriguez, Silva or Cavani would harm the balance of a our side on the rise??

Coutinho would play wide left ish in a 442 not central. Bit like Bernard but really good.

If this were even remotely true and is was possible to get someone this good in the team then its a no brainer, ok the money is whatever it is, none of it is coming out of our own pockets so why do people bang on about how much a player may cost us!!!!
Anyone who has seen our last 2 dismal showings know we have a nothing midfield, none of them are good enough or maybe Gomes is just not trying cause he has to play with the likes of Davies, Iwobi, Siguardsson et al, bring him some quality to play with and we may have a different player in our team!!!!
As a club they should be thinking about getting some really quality in otherwise we will just tread water with the likes of villa, newcastle etc and that not good enough, if it is then why do we all bother??????

Coutinho is a class act, it would take us up a level to have such a talented player in our midfield.

Coutinho Gomes Allan Iwobi lining up next season has a look of class about it.

Signing them two Brazilians would take us up a level. What I want is some continuity as well. Take him on loan but only with an acceptable right to buy clause. Either that or buy him outright.

Adrian@41, people bang on about how much money it will cost because it has a very real and important effect on the club we all love!

For example the £45m plus 100k wages spent on Siggurddsson was then money that we could not spend on other players, our own Tielemans perhaps or Bruno Fernandes.

Coutinho is an excellent player who practically guarantees you goals and assists but that is crazy money (if true) for a loan move if they really expect a £25m loan fee. If there was an opportunity to buy that could be different but not sure there is.

Perhaps if we on the brink of top 4 and he might be the player to push us over the top then it could be worth it but we are just not there yet. There's no point getting Coutinho for that moolah if we don't have the players who can get him the ball quickly and effectively.

All I would say is if Courtinho is everything some on here are saying, how come Barcelona sent him on loan to Bayern, and why havent Bayern tried to make the move permanent.

Would love to get Coutinho into our club, but does anyone know what the player himself thinks? He may, out of courtesy to the RS decline the offer to join us. Didn't Emre Can recently say he was given an opportunity to join man Utd but declined due to their rivalry with the RS? On the other hand, Coutinho may well relish the opportunity to work with Ancelotti again. Interesting few weeks coming up.

I don know what Coutinho thinks but his agent is saying he wants him to go to Arsenal according to the BBC sport pages.

These players are the difference between 4th place and 5th place. Such players bring the standards and expectations amongst other team members to a higher level. If the club want the next level, go and get him.

I live in Spain, and he was rubbish with Barcelona. Give one of the kids a chance.
