Markelo joins FC Twente on season-long loan
Under-23s midfielder Nathangelo Markelo has joined FC Twente on a season-long loan for the upcoming 2020-21 season in Holland.
Markelo recently signed a new 2-year contract with Everton earlier this month, and the understanding was that a loan to the Dutch league would be arranged.
Everton signed Markelo from FC Volendam in 2017 and the youth player has become a key player for David Unsworth's Under-23s, playing in almost all of their games last season before the PL2 campaign was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The harsh reality is that he was probably behind Baningime and Adeniran last season in our U23s midfield, and none of the three were able to grab Carlo's attention and force their way into our midfield which, in the last 6 or 7 games, has been so dispiriting to watch.
I think he has the potential to improve in Holland but can't see him forcing his way into our Premier League team if we recruit properly and develop the likes of Onyango.
At last, we appear to have developed a business strategy for our youngsters, a 2-year contract with 1 year on loan, if he makes it, great – he comes back; if not, we sell with a year left.

Every time when he has gone on loan, he has been outstanding. Then he tapers off... and then, instead of being a fan favourite, and them wanting to sign him at the end of his loan spell, they can't wait to send him back to us.
