Alan Stubbs Interview

There's a new podcast channel featuring an interview with Alan Stubbs. He talks about his time at Everton including the joy at playing for his boyhood club and of course THAT goal by Wayne Rooney.

It's hosted by the oddly titled "Well Done, Michael, he's 13" — some sort of in-joke that they promise to but fail to explain for the numpties out there.

Stubbsy left the foot in when necessary and knew when to put his boot through it. Doubt Richi would be getting kicked all over the field with a Stubbs type on the pitch. He was hard, proper Merseyside hard but fair.

Full disclosure, me mam grew up in the same part of Liverpool and I've still got family there. I'm glad we never built a stadium out there, but I'm also a little sad we didn't. There's not much opportunity in Kirkby and I'm not sure there ever will be. Full credit to Stubbs for beating the large odds.

Alan Stubbs was a good strong centre half who read the game very well, he had to because of his lack of pace, but his football brain covered all parts of the pitch, a good strong captain who looked after his team. Alan Stubbs was most definitely “ One of us” a true Evertonian.

Regarding Kirkby, Derek, a run down town as you say but also full of genuine people who brought their families up in Kirkby but came from town in Liverpool.
