The transformation of Anthony Gordon
In an extensive interview originally published in Everton's matchday programme for the game with Leicester City, Anthony Gordon talks about the lockdown training regime which led to his Merseyside derby debut… a gruelling week with the Under-23s and David Unsworth in Spain 2 years ago… overcoming his own self-doubts... and the compliment from Carlo Ancelotti which meant more to him than any football recognition.

Very impressed by this young man, on and off the pitch. Could be that Carlo can build a side around a "spine" that includes Anthony Gordon and Mason Holgate – I do feel we need a more robust goalkeeper, though, much as I appreciate Jordan Pickford's shot-stopping abilities.

A redhead starring in midfield! What could go wrong! (Forget Megson and Pembridge!)

I was reading earlier that, during lockdown, he, along with a personal trainer and his brother who played for Liverpool, shared a house and the three worked out every day. There were before-and-after photos and he is now pure muscle.
The one gripe I had about Osman was he was easily knocked off the ball; I don't think Gordon will be.

Let him progress in the shadows.
Evertonian optimism is to a footballer's career what Jack the Ripper was to surgery.

He certainly seems to have a greater physical presence since the restart. I thought he looked a little lightweight in his couple of appearances before the lockdown, whereas now he looks stronger and, along with that, more self-assured.

I agree with comment above re keeping Gordon in the shadows. We now know he's good enough, but he needs to be kept clear of the spotlight and having everyone's hopes pinned to him.
I think the weight of expectation combined with having to carry lazy big-money signings, week-in & week-out, has done much to destroy Davies's progress this season. I don't want to see that happen to Gordon.

Great read. I really like what he says.
