Everton to refund fans for lost matches

Everton have offered to reimburse supporters for the remaining home games of the 2019-20 season which they will not be able to attend because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Premier League remains committed to completing the season at some stage once it has been deemed safe to do so but, like the German Bundesliga this weekend, it will almost certainly be to empty stadiums.

That means that supporters won't be allowed to attend games and Everton are the latest club to refund fans, offering them the option of being fully reimbursed, taking a credit for future ticket sales or donating the money to Everton In The Community.

A statement from the club said: "Everton has confirmed all fans with tickets for the club's remaining five home Premier League fixtures of the 2019/20 season will be able to claim a refund due to the increasing expectation that, should the remaining games be played, they will take place behind closed doors.

"Season Ticket Members will be entitled to a credit or refund on a pro-rata basis for the five games and will also be given the option to forgo part or all of their balance in order for the club to donate that amount in full over to Everton in the Community."

Hospitality Members will be contacted by the club to advise of the process and options available to them.

In addition, the club will be extending the deadline for signing up for season tickets for next season, with the new cut-off to be announced at a later date.

I'm sure the club had no choice, but it's still an uplifting story, and one that hopefully raises a lot of money for EitC.

EFC showing their class again. Not 100% sure yet but I am considering donating at least some of the refund. Hopefully, others will also.

Off-topic but a glorious way to spend 16 minutes -- a compilation of every goal Tim Cahill scored for Everton:

Interesting to see so many deadly accurate Hibbo crosses in the early years, then Bainesy late on... and a delightful reminder of the Odd Couple spring of 2009 when Timmy and Fellaini were the front pairing. God that was fun to watch.

The right thing to do. I appreciate the Club giving me the chance to make my own decisions regarding refunds from this season's lost games.

I really enjoyed that on a boring Sunday afternoon, Thanks Mike.

That second overhead kick was better than the Rooney one that the media raved about for years.

He was known for his heart and determination but the lad had skill and class aplenty too.

As already mentioned, the club didn't really have a choice, but equally reassuring they give fans the choice. Well done, Everton. Great to still live in a world were people can be presented with information and make their own decisions based on the advice given.

Mike Gaynes @6, I also noticed Tony Hibbert's assists in the Tim Cahill video.

Also, I seem to remember Hibbo providing 2 great crosses in the 4-4 at Old Trafford, one for Jelavic, one for Fellaini.

Thanks for the tip, Mike. Jay has it spot on. Fantastic watch. I'd forgotten just how good Tim Cahill was. Some tremendous goals, particularly crosses and headers. Surely there has not been a better header of a ball. He was such a natural goalscorer, always showing great composure and deadly finishing. Very clinical.

'Refunds for lost matches' … hmm … If I got my money back for every time I've seen Everton lose; they'd owe me a million dollars!!

Alan #9, that's right, he did. I had forgotten that!

The other items I remember from that game are Fellaini's absolute dominance in the box -- he scored one and laid on two -- and Rooney not celebrating his two goals.

Hi Lyndon. Has the club give any information as to when we have to renew our season tickets? On the club website, it's still the 28 May.

Can anyone shed any light on season ticket holders that paid in cash last summer?

How will the club go about making refunds?

Colin #13, the club has announced that the deadline of 28 May for renewal of season tickets has been extended. Further details are to be published on Wednesday.

Jim #14, I could not see anything on that subject, possibly that may also be clearer after Wednesday.

I thought the update letter from DB-B yesterday was a well worded statement showing a fine example that Everton and EitC are showing.

I'll certainly consider giving some or all of the season ticket refund to EitC. I've probably saved that amount anyway in travel costs and beer and chips for 5 matches.

Has anyone had the further e-mail from the club which was promised in Denise Barrett-Baxendale's one on Sunday?

Tony #18,

I got one asking me to choose one of the three given options by the 4th June.

Please tell us by Thursday 4 June how you'd like us to process your refund.

You can also call the Fan Centre on 0151 808 1254.

I've heard nothing at all back so far.

I emailed the fan centre following the link given in the official website and they replied yesterday saying they would be in contact today and up to now I have not heard back.

I got my email today, couldn't conclude my business with them, they said the information I'd given them wasn't enough to carry on with, although I'd given everything they'd asked for. Eventually concluded the business by phone to everyone's satisfaction, it took about 5 minutes over the phone.

Hi Dave [28],

I too have experienced difficulty in finalising the refund procedure. I put in all my details but the system appeared to freeze in the final stage. Because my young lady and I have a joint account, I thought at first that I had entered the wrong information but, when I entered her details, I got the same result.

I tried to contact the club by phone without success, I waited patiently for 50 minutes before giving up. I'll try again on Tuesday, if the phones are not manned tomorrow.

John (29), two nights on the run I tried ringing the phone after 4:30 pm, they answered pretty quickly and I was seen to satisfactory, earlier in the day it just rang and rang, with the answering machine going every 10 seconds “You are in a queue, you will be seen to shortly”, gave up after 10 minutes and 15 minutes.

Very funny, Dan. Too funny.

The ones in question would not be 'lost' in the sense intended by the author, unless the season was declared null and void. There seems now no chance of that happening.

Ironically increasing the chance that they will be 'lost' in the other sense — unless Carlo has come up with some good stratagems for getting this rabble ramped up a notch or three and able to hold more than half a candle up to the Big Boys.

I live in hope, fear and trepidation.
