Gomes bows out of ePremier League tournament but wins the Internet again
Gomes had qualified for the last eight by pasting Chelsea's Reece James 8-0 on FIFA 20 but, no doubt hampered by having to play as Everton against all-star Manchester City, the Toffees' midfielder was beaten 4-2 despite twice coming from behind to make it 2-2 in the second half.
He posted a message to Twitter with a video explaining that he was trying to remain faithful to his pre-match rituals, including signing autographs as walked into Goodison Park with fans chanting his "He's a belter" song.
Trying at all cost keep the same routine 😂🤦🏻♂️ #COYB@Everton @premierleague @EASPORTSFIFA @SkySports pic.twitter.com/6ToFRvPt9Q

Afterwards, he posted another video evocative of his feelings after the defeat:
My reaction after missing the equaliser! 😡😂

Gomes has been exhibiting his humour during the Covid-19 shutdown, starting with an excellent take on the Tom Hanks film, Castaway, last month.

I hope we can get the right partner for him in midfield and he can really kick on to the level he was at, at Valencia, and hopefully be even better.

What end of a bell was he, for doing that? Commiserations to André, you have flown the flag well again at Everton and proved to be a decent human being and a top bloke. Harry Enfield would have been proud of you.

Turned out they were actually friends of Marco Silva but knew Gomes. They couldn't speak highly enough of the man, all-round decent bloke, they said.
