Tosun says he may be sidelined for 6 to 7 months

Cenk Tosun says he doesn't expect to be back in action until late this year after rupturing an anterior cruciate knee ligament in February.

The Turk, who joined Crystal Palace on a loan deal in January with a view to making the move permanent at the end of the season, made just five appearances for the South London side before suffering the knee injury in training.

Tosun's loan with the Eagles was cut short and he returned to Everton for treatment following surgery to correct the problem but he told Sporx that he is still on crutches and won't return to full training until late autumn.

“I am getting better and better," said Tosun who is at home with his family for four weeks. "A month ago, I underwent surgery and now I'm feeling fine. It looks like the whole situation will likely continue for around 6 to 7 months. I'm still on crutches but I am making progress every single day.”

Tosun, a £21M signing from Besiktas in January 2018, has a reported £60,000-a-week contract with Everton that doesn't expire until June 2022.

The injury was rotten luck for Cenk and Everton. He was doing well for Palace, the fans took to him, and a permanent move was on the cards. Wish him the best of luck with his recovery.

A good man and a hardworking, dauntless player for whom absolutely nothing has gone right (on the pitch, at least) since he left Besiktas.

He may not have been good enough, but he never embarrassed himself or the shirt, and I wish him nothing but the best in resurrecting his career. It'll be quite a challenge at 29 after his third knee injury.

Bad news. We could really have done with the 㾾M we might have got if Palace had signed him after a decent loan.

What a terrible signing he has been. Sad that he's got his injury etc but, for a very big fee (at the time), he's offered very little. Leipzig, Dortmund etc have the right idea.

Buy young and develop. You can't catch up with the top 2 / top 4 / top 6 through buying players that would be nowhere near good enough to play for those sides.

We should only be paying big transfer fees for players under the age of 24. Any player older we should be targeting on a free or reduced fee as their contract is ending soon. We have to be much more switched on with transfer policy.

Signing Sigurdsson for 㿙M at 28 years old on ٣M a year is a case in point. He will be 31 at the start of next season with virtually no resale value. Bad transfer decisions like this with older average players are arguably the biggest ball and chain the club as shackled itself with and hinders progress for years on end.

Tony - you are correct. Our signings of recent have demonstrated how to spend a lot of money on players that should be nowhere near an Everton team hoping to progress. And, as we have seen with a number of examples, of which Tosun is sadly but one, we cannot get rid.

All the bull about "not good enough, terrible signing" – if we had played Big Sam's system that he was bought for, he would have flourished. But we didn't, we played Silva's and he flopped. He's a good forward, far better than that useless Niasse.
