Knee injury could scupper Tosun's Palace hopes

Cenk Tosun has played his last game of the season and will miss the European Championships after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

The Turkey international is currently on loan at Crystal Palace and was hoping to secure a permanent move to Selhurst Park at the end of the season, having fallen down the pecking order at Everton.

Palace have an option to purchase Tosun for £20m this summer if his loan move proves successful but with just one goal in a spell that has already been disrupted by a hamstring strain, he might not get the chance to further impress the Eagles.

As orginally reported by The Athletic, the 28-year-old suffered the injury in training and has now returned to Everton, cutting short his loan deal.

He is scheduled to undergo surgery on the problem next week and is expected be out for up to six months.

Now before you all come on here and moan about how it's just our luck, we won't get any money for him now, spare a thought for the lad.

Cenk, to me, looked like he was really enjoying playing for Palace and a move to them was possibly on the cards; terrible news for him. This on top of Gerry's injury against Liverpool too! Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for both these lads and they can get their careers back on track.

He just can't seem to get a run of games together, scoring on his Palace debut I was made up for him so to get a season ending injury is tough to take for the lad cos his Everton career is definitely over, hope he gets a move in the summer.

Urggh. Sorry for him but also for us! We really need to shift some players this summer and he was one of our most saleable (loseable) assets. If he'd scored some goals for Palace and managed to secure a 㾾M move it would really have helped us with FFP.

As it is we can add him to the likes of Sandro, Bolasie, Schneiderlin, Walcott and Sigurdsson; all players getting over 㿨k per week whose contribution to the first team I expect to be minimal next season but who will be very hard to shift. The Walsh legacy continues...

A more appropriate headline might be "Tosun knee injury could scupper Everton hopes" (of selling him!)

I feel sad for Cenk, in that I believe any injury can never be predicted and in most cases even avoided, but to hit him so early in his loan spell which I believe may have resulted in him going there permanently is a double whammy.

Hopefully, it may not be as bad as it first appears, and it works out well for both parties. The same goes for Geri at Watford, who deep down, I wish was still with us. Get well soon boys!

Frank. You only get any insurance if the players career is finished, not just a season.

As far as I am aware, there was a mention when he went out on loan, that should the player be out for an extended time, then Everton would take over paying his wages.

I take it that Palace, despite him allegedly returning to Everton and Finch Farm, will still have to pay the agreed amount when the loan was agreed?

Now that is bad news. That might mean we have to loan him out again instead of selling him next season. £20M coming in from his sale would have helped our FFP greatly.

Shame really, at least he went out on loan and tried to find himself a new club, unlike some we have who are just happy to sit on their contract.

I like Cenk, was hoping it would work out for him at Palace, shame he may now have to miss the Euros, so wishing the guys speedy recovery.

Well said, Brian@ 23 and many other classy posts also. Cenk has always shown drive and commitment, he clearly loves the club and I have no doubt he desperately wanted it to work.

Compare him to the likes of Niasse, whom I simply cannot defend. To have stolen a living the way he has, and turning down opportunities to play elsewhere really stinks, if you ask me!

To anyone showing any empathy at all with Tosun (or any player being paid way more per week than the average UK annual salary), l say give yer 'ead a wobble.

He's made for life already. Save your sympathy for the fans who pay his obscene salary for next to fuck all in return... And no, it's not his fault we signed the useless fucker, and a few more besides.
