Video: Gomes on his fear, hard work and joyous return from horror injury

The midfielder has produced a video looking back on his recovery from the ankle fracture dislocation he suffered in November, a journey he says may have felt short to outsiders but was, in reality, a long one for him.

"I don't have enough words to explain how thankful I am for the big support I received from you! To all the massive football fans, Evertonians, ex-players, my team-mates, to Everton, to my family and friends, from the bottom of my heart... thank you. It feels good to be back at home."

And some absolute belters on TW thought it 'childish' and 'embarrassing' that fans wanted to make any sort of gesture of support over his injury.

He seems like such a genuine, honest and humble guy.

The midfield will look stronger with a fit Andre Gomes there's no question of that.

If this guy can add a four or five goals to his game then we have a fantastic player.

Yes, that's what he needs to add, Jim, he has it in him I'm sure. I think next season will be his best for us under the careful guidance of Carlo.

Great to see Andre back as the midfield has sadly lacked creativity since his injury, let's hope he can stay injury free and soon be back to his best.

It will take time to get Match fit as was in evidence against Manure as he seemed to tire as the game went on, but surprisingly it brought the best out of Tom Davies who had been almost anonymous first half.

I think with the videos we have seen of him he really gets what Everton is all about, and he should be a major part of the new Everton as Carlo starts to rebuild a team with players he wants to take us to the next level.

The past player he most reminds me of is Arteta in the way he protects the ball, the passing and dribbling skills, but with a bit more muscle. Of course, Arteta was mostly surrounded by battlers like Osman, Cahill, Pienaar and Carsley. Gomes doesn't have that quality around him, but maybe Delph, Davies, possibly Bernard when he can nail down his position in the team, may see the best out of him. Of course, we need a couple of good acquisitions in the summer in addition to hoping that Gbamin comes back fit and is everything that we paid a huge wad of money for.

He's a belter!

I think that's a really powerful video. Any Evertonian who is feeling down or overwhelmed, just have a watch. Listen to what André says and apply it to your life.

Believe in yourself, push yourself, and you can achieve your goal, no matter how great or how small. You can do it.

This man seems to be setting new standards of how to be a role model. I don't think that's why he does it, it's just natural to him.

Incredibly quick recovery and he's looking sharp. I think this injury has perversely given him a boost and expect him to come on in confidence having overcome such a blow.

Gbamin though will probably take 6 months to bed himself back in... if he can fully recover. I don't think the club will be pinning their hopes on him for next season, be more like an unexpected bonus.

Great footballer and decent human. Let's hope he takes himself to a new level on the playing field...
