Gbamin undergoes further surgery

The Ivorian has been sidelined since August after he badly tore a quadriceps muscle in training just weeks after arriving from Mainz 05 in a £23m deal.
Given a preliminary target of this month for his return, Gbamin suffered an unfortunate setback in his recovery and had to undergo further surgery this week.
That procedure has been described as successful by the club's medical staff and Carlo Ancelotti told the media today during his press conference ahead of tomorrow's clash with Crystal Palace that he anticipates having the midfielder back in a couple of months.
"The plan is eight weeks after surgery," the manager said. "The surgery went well and he's doing individual treatment, but with him we have to do it slowly because the injury was big.
"It's step by step. We hope to recover him before the end of the season."

If memory serves, he was originally diagnosed and told he could rehab it without surgery. Then, by October, they were like "Whoopsie... you need the surgery after all."
I can't help but wonder if he'd be back and fit had he just had that surgery in August. Guess we'll never know...

No point in taking risks, so save JP, until he's ready, and based on what's been written on TW, about other sportsman, who've had this injury, it can take a lot of time.
Hopefully he will be back as the player that who arrived at Goodison Park.

When we sell one of our midfielders in the summer, JP will take his chance, we'll see if he can cut it. I predict he'll be something like McCarthy in his best form with us, with less injuries. I know, less injuries. I believe. COYB.
By the way, we are very very few toffees in Greenland, and one long time Greenlandic Everton fan is unfortunately about to pass away due to his illness, Hendrik, 69, very possibly this evening. He is really the only guy I text with, when Everton are playing. So sad, though it seems he wants friends and family to make us laugh until his last breath. What a lad. Gave him the shirt the other day, he wanted to order around Christmas, a black Everton shirt with his name on it and his birthyear 50 on it.

Here's to a big win tomorrow, I'll never forget the Chelsea game in 2015, when my dad passed the night before, and Everton brushed Chelsea away with Naismith's perfect hat-trick.

Anyway hope they were good to you wherever you were!
Minik @ 8, full commiserations to your mate and yourself, sadly reflecting, we all are inevitably going to go sometime, but it is always more heartfelt when it is someone close to you.
Hope JP Gbamin, is seriously on the road to recovery this time, and comes back to shine with us!

Before this season, Gbamin had missed 12 games out of a possible 100 due to injury -- that's Bundesliga and Cup games combined -- since 2016. At that level, not bad at all.

Since your initial post was at number 8, I suggest anyone wanting to offer a prayer, thought or good wish to Hendrik does so 8 minutes into the match today. I will, at Goodison.

Thoughts are with you, very sad to hear about Hendrick, I hope he can enjoy one final win today.
Who knows ? He maybe able to find a decent link to watch the game from the ''other side''.
Best regards to yourself, Hendrick and his family. And don't forget even though you wont be texting Hendrick during matches, you can still come onto the live forum on ToffeeWeb which will be a poor substitute, but is sometimes more fun than the match!

Seriously if you ignore the more extreme posters it can be an enjoyable way of following the game and there is a togetherness which you can only get at the game itself.
My best wishes to you in what is clearly a sad time.

Pre-season will be very important for them but, until then, mend well and strong.

Mark @2,
Conservative treatment is almost always considered the best option as a first line of treatment. Of course, some injuries don't respond to conservative treatment and need more invasive intervention. It is always possible to criticise conservative treatment in hindsight but that is not the 'real' world.
Colin @3,
I couldn't agree more. Better to come back when fit rather than when we need him. This is always the conflict with professional athletes... appearing for the first team before they are truly ready.
Jerome's list of Gbamin's injuries relating to his thigh makes me wonder if these were related to his devastating quadriceps tendon rupture.
I am reminded of Michael Owen's debilitating knee injury when playing for England. When he returned after rehab, he had much the better quads and hamstrings after extensive hard work. I wonder if Gbamin will be better for all the gym work he must go through?
Just musing and hoping! Gym work certainly helped people like Tim Cahill and Cristiano Ronaldo have long careers and stay relatively 'injury-free'.

Someone a lot of Evertonians were clamoring for, James Rodriguez, by comparison, has missed 30+ games since the beginning of 2018. That's injury-prone.
Mark 34 – I wasn't criticizing, I was asking if anyone thought it may have played a role is all. I hope the treatment path does wonders for him and he comes back stronger than before. It's a difficult injury to fully recover from though, especially in a sport as physical as football.

Here's one for the older ones, can anyone remember John Conolly being on a stretcher, then he got off it. And, if memory serves me right, he picked up a booking for it.

The excellent medical team deserves a mention for fixing him up successfully. Good luck to JP and I hope his rehabilitation goes well.
