U18s hold out for strong Baggies win

Everton Under-18s held out for an impressive 2-1 victory away to West Brom in the U18 Premier League.

The young Blues made a flying start, going ahead after just three minutes when Lewis Dobbin collected Sean McAllister's through-ball and fired into the corner of the Baggies' goal.

The hosts restored parity just seven minutes later, however, when Faal converted after a scramble in the penalty box.

Dobbin went close to putting Everton back in front before they did on the half-hour mark. Dobbin drew a foul just outside the area and Hughes curled a superb free-kick past the keeper to make it 2-1.

The Blues threatened to extend their advantage in the second half with both Dobbin and McAllister having opportunities but they had done enough to claim the win despite late pressure from the Baggies.

Everton U18s: Leban, Hagan, Higgins (57' Lowey), Welch, Thompson, Hughes, Hosie, Onyango, Dobbin (90' Kouyate) Whittaker (63' Cannon), McAllister.
Subs not Used: McIntyre, Jon Anderson.

I watched the limited highlights of the game, a very well taken goal by Dobbin, good pace to get on the ball and not allow a tackle and a well struck cross shot. He's progressing nicely.

And another young team with 9 1st years including two Schoolboys starting.

I've been waiting for the highlights to be put up Phill. I'll give them a watch tonight. Dobbin has gone off the boil lately so it's good to see he scored again.

Another positive piece of news is that it's finally been announced that Tom Cannon signed a new deal. I was worried as to why the prolific 17-year-old had not signed despite others in that side signing before him despite having 17 birthdays after him.

Onyango is the next star player to do so, in March.

I'll be interested in that feedback, Steve.

I know you take a strong interest in the kids.
