Pereira out of the running for Everton post

The 51-year-old was reportedly in negotiations with the Blues with some outlets like Sky Sports claiming that the club hoped to have him in place by the time they travelled to Old Trafford for Sunday's clash with Manchester United.
However, Pereira, who interviewed at Everton in 2013, is also in talks with SIPG Shanghai over a new £25m-per-year contract, has withdrawn his name from consideration.
"It's always an honour and I am utterly grateful to be considered on a list by a club that I have so much respect for," he told Sky Sports News.
"At this point I am still the coach of SIPG a club close to my heart in a country that is growing immensely in football.
"Currently I am not in a position to make any other commitments. I cannot decide now I need time to think and plan my future by looking at all the options I have."

The board are probably too fearful of a backlash if they went and brought Moyes in again.
I'm guessing that it's erring towards Big Dunc until after Christmas at least, maybe until May although judging by Benitez's comments last night on Monday Night Football he's open to managing Everton, a thinly veiled hint dropped.

9 Posted 10/12/2019 at 17:40:54
Big Dunc can do the same job Moyes or any of the unemployed journeymen would. Makes no sense to put someone else in if they are not going to bring in some new ideas and evolve the team. Dunc knows he doesn't have the skillset to do that at the moment.

Relieved because he simply didn't strike me as a good fit as to what we require right now.
Concerned because he confirms we have definitely been negotiating with him.
I hope the alternatives are of better quality.

I doubt that Duncan lacks confidence in his abilities to do more. He struck me as playing down his chances to safeguard his job if someone else comes in.
I do hope he gets at least the rest of this year- we will need his motivational skills against Leicester and RS and I'd prefer to tackle them with Duncan rather than some new guy who is trying to get to know the club.

I'm big on Dunc. I think he can do an excellent job, he surely has enough nouse after the time he's spent in football. He need not be on his own in that department anyway.
Maybe he doesn't want all the pressure and shit that goes with the position though, who knows.
29 Posted 10/12/2019 at 18:22:13
I'd keep Ferguson in the job for the time being unless we start losing heavily, which I doubt, I think he will do just great.

You are onto something, I think Emery is a good coach but probably a bit of a dick, We should defo pass on him also, if the behaviour of Xhaka is anything to go by and others he doesnt have respect, a fundamental for a manager
I will start off the Dunc comparison's here and now but can you IMAGINE any glorified show pony disrespectin our blue jersey in a similar manner with the big man in the dugout !!!
Doesnt bare thinking about, Tactical nouse is one thing but not having the respect of the dressing room is terminal, I think Henry suffers a similar affliction (good enough for him though the cheatin fecker!)
This guy (Perrirea) is not going to succeed in the PL simple

The biggest fear is that the board acts like they have no alternative and appoints Moyes... similar to when Allardyce was hired. Let's hope Ferguson can pick up some more points in the interim and make it clear there's no crisis.
45 Posted 10/12/2019 at 19:01:19
Well good luck then with Iwobi (lol), DCL and Kean/Tosun
Emery was an abject failure with better players and with more resources available. To think the board are considering him is laughable.
The press have no idea at all, just ignore them.

Moyes works for talksport. His mates keep sticking his name in the hat and the flurry of money was because he drifted to 10/1 yesterday so people think their buying money, wedges go on Moyes so his price comes in. That is all.
I hope
48 Posted 10/12/2019 at 19:05:39
No mean fear but that's their job, and second best and yesterday's managers, aren't an option. Failure this time, is not an option.
The board must take stock and look in terms of football, what they want to achieve.
49 Posted 10/12/2019 at 19:11:13
Aubamayang had 22 league goals last season and Lacazette had 13. Together they scored 48 in all competitions. This season 18 so far.
Emery had a lot of problems at Arsenal. Getting his strikers to "spark" wasn't one of them.

Are we going to qualify for the champions league?
No
On that basis, give Duncan until at least the Brighton game. There are a number of winnable games in there.
Should he collect 10 points in that timeframe. And possibly advance us in either cup competition then I'd suggest he deserves to takes us until the end of the season.
I am completely happy that Perreira is not an opportunity missed.
All managers have to start somewhere. Some work their way through a system, some, including some of the most successful managers of all time have started out with great opportunities near the top of the game.
It so happens that circumstances have dictated Duncan manages us now.
The evidence of the first game illustrated to me that there is much about him that I did not give him credit for.
Our most successful ever manager in his ill fated 3rd spell in charge saw something in Duncan to give him the armband.
If we get to the end of the season, safe but underwhelmed then we have had 6 months to have secured the right man for the job.
60 Posted 10/12/2019 at 19:53:45
Maybe Moshiri has seen the backing that Ferguson got from the crowd and maybe he thinks I will give him a bit longer. But more likely he will bring in an experienced manager maybe with Duncan as his number 2 enter David Moyes.
61 Posted 10/12/2019 at 19:55:25
Try telling Duncan we won't have a chance to win one of the Cups!
We are in it to win it.

Seems to me that he's been pulling a fast one with his Chinese team.
In the interview I saw he never committed to answer any of the questions put to him about the Everton job and just kept bigging everything up.
Think a lot of these managers and agents are wise to the publicity they can get now by being connected to any job going.
Let's see how big Duncan gets on.
May not have been the nicest football but there was effort, grit, togetherness and passion which is a great start.

Duncan F. appears to be hot on motivation, game management and tactics.
Answer:
Duncan Ferguson as Manager, with Marco Silva as a Head Coach, back at Finch Farm, doing the technical stuff ….. Simples! [as they say].

81 Posted 10/12/2019 at 22:08:36
Let's give Dunc the job on a match by basis or until the end of the season. If it's not working let's give the job to Benitez.
He is the best candidate, let's forget the few comments he made and look forward and get on with it.

You can see his impressive record on Wikepedia. He has succeeded as both a player and manager. Took Brisbane Road to successive A-League premierships which included a sequence of 36 matches undefeated. He seems to succeed wherever he goes.
87 Posted 11/12/2019 at 03:08:09
1. Dodging the P bullet is a blessing
2. Emery is not the man for Everton, no way
3. If we actually sign Moyes thousands of Evertonians will drink arsenic
4. Give Big Dunc some time. That shine might wear off next week? Conversely, that shine might turn into the Scottish Mastermind Sir Duncan Ferguson? Who the hell knows? But after last week I don't care is we miss out on 3-4 managers while we give Big Dunc a wee bit of time.
Last week was a game changer for me. I witnessed a human being with some type of abstract charisma. A level of invisible charisma. Charisma that motivates human beings beyond. Not just the attention grabber in the room, but the guy who people follow - a leader of men in the truest sense.
Then I witnessed that human being show humility in a presser. And while exuding that humility, displayed a high level of intelligence behind his decision making - no matter how elementary the way we played, it took smarts to come to the conclusion, and bravery too, that “less is more†with the approach and tactics to the game.
I also saw a man who will make unpopular, out of vogue, decisions. [Paraphrasing] “You played two up top, not a very popular thing these days.†Dunc's answer: “Why not?†Then Dunc went on to explain why he thought that “rudimentary†approach actually made the most sense.
In short, the man showed me every single thing I could want out of a manager on Saturday. Charisma, intelligence, bravery, humility, passion in spades, all of it wrapped up in one neat little package called Duncan Ferguson.
Give the dude another week. We might be on to something here! If not and we miss out on Moyes, Emery, and a host of other mercenaries? Pfft. Who cares!

Controversially, I am coming round to the idea of Moyes returning. While I would love us to be playing slick, fluid, continental style football, realistically we aren't there yet. We actually need to take a step back before we can move forward; become hard to beat again.
If we can become hard to beat, with the quality of player we have in the squad, it won't take long to transition from hard to beat, to winning more often than not. I think Moyes can deliver on making us hard to beat and with some quality additions to the squad, we can start being taken seriously again.
Time to swallow some pride and bring him back.
94 Posted 11/12/2019 at 09:05:49
Rather than bring Moyes back (sigh) let's give Ferguson a few more games and see how we go. The players clearly played for him so let's keep it going.
95 Posted 11/12/2019 at 09:21:14
Strong links with Merseyside, even photographed in an Everton shirt when he was 7. Champions League winner and played in 3 World Cups.
British, strong will to win, ticks all the boxes in many ways but it's Steven Gerrard. Damn
96 Posted 11/12/2019 at 09:26:10
No to Moyes, Emery etc and I was also underwhelmed with Pereira.
Benitez is the one I just can't get my head around. FSW, little cloob, it's all in my mind, but take emotion out of it and maybe, just maybe...

Big Dunc as a manager may be our answer and perfect fit who knows. I for one have been very negative towards him being on the coaching staff as he has been a common among the failed managers, then bang he pulls off a performance of passion and grit as manager. So who knows.
99 Posted 11/12/2019 at 09:42:28
It is clear that Kenwright and his Little Miss Dynamite have screwed us over. The club is a complete mess and all the little factions have hamstrung Brands at every turn and this is the result.
I am very, very angry right now. I have never been more angry with this club.

I posted on the Moyes thread last night when this story broke before turning in how it was going to cost me a good night's sleep. It did.
But I'm not in full-blown despair or volcano erupting anger mode just yet.
There has been a whole raft of rumours and favourites in recent days.
Let's see how this actually plays out before going into full meltdown.
That said, if Moyes does return, the club and its guardians will fully deserve all the scorn and outrage that I believe will follow from the supporters.

One of the secret reasons I want Dunc to continue, is that I'd like him to make it through the rest of the season because:
1. If he lights it up, we can then award him a contract, or
2. If Dunc sees us safe but that new car smell wears off, at season's end we can go full bore for Ten Hag. He is my #1 dream pick in an honest moment.
