I really hope he comes back to his best and has the career we all want him to. If he does, I think he could be an Everton legend as he's developing the ties to prevent being poached away (I hope!).

In any event, the red would have replaced the yellow, rather than being in addition to it, and the fact that it was rescinded is baffling to me, although plenty on here justified it. Son made a very obvious, cynical and vindicative tackle from behind without being anywhere near the ball — yellow card at least... and the damage it caused was fully worthy of a red all day long.

The FA has no such requirement for clubs paying compensation. The only precedent I can think of for what you are insisting on here is the case of Victor Anichebe, who sued that animal Kevin Nolan for a disgusting tackle that effectively ruined his career:

Also, he consistently seems like such an awesome human.

Arguably you could say the same for our defence and attack.

He might make his comeback under a new Manager, interestingly Jorge Jesus knows him well and more or less launched his career.

Andy, they're ALL “ not that kind of guy” until they ARE that kind of guy. The majority of tackles like this and the one on Coleman may well have been due to the red mist but, at that precise moment, the intention was to “get him”. Ok, a second later, when Son or Taylor saw the results of their assault, then they may well have been consumed with remorse but it's a bit late then. And as we saw with Son, they soon forget.

Have a look on Google at the Nolan tackle and also the one on Naismith by Gerrard. Look at the tackle and the look of fury on their face and tell me they're “Not that kind of guy”.

He ran the show at Mordor last year, fingers crossed he can come back and fullfill his potential, As discussed ad nauesem I feel Son got off lite on this ( not saying he meant the outcome) but is a real indightment of how the media (PR machine)can influence and indeed interfere with sporting results /outcomes, which is basically what VAR is all about

There was nothing "red mist" or two-footed about Son's tackle, and Gomes wasn't injured by Son's impact itself, but by the way he fell. It was certainly a retaliatory foul worthy of a yellow, but not vicious or intended to injure.

I see a clear difference there.

Son chased Gomes around for, what, sixty seconds after the apparent elbow and the fact that it was Gomes' bad luck that his studs got caught doesn't hide the fact that Son had fallen victim to the red mist. Of course he didn't mean/think that his tackle would result in such a bad injury. But it did.

In the original discussions, I used the phrase 'assuming Son was genuinely remorseful' or something like that. You pulled me up on that, and I accepted what you said.

However, having thought about it further, I feel my original phrase is justified, given the premeditated nature of his actions, not in any deliberate aim to break someone's limb, but in a deliberate aim to foul from behind in a knowingly dangerous way. Such action needs to be punished rigorously, as a deterrence to both him and others.

And I'm far from convinced he wouldn't do it again, given his track record. And of course, genuine remorse really means a determination to avoid such actions in the future, which is very doubtful when someone has already shown repetition.
