You can only wish him well after reading that article. Good of United to pay him. I urge him to ring the Ward Bell in a place such as that all good news is great news and a sign of hope to those still receiving treatment.

Been there and done that and it sounds very similar, you wouldn't wish Chemo on your worst enemy albeit that the radiotherapy is what causes the damage that won't be undone.

All the best to this gentleman, and class from United in extending a caring hand for him. "Remission" is the most beautiful word in the English language, and I'm happy for him to be enjoying one.

In my ward there wasn't a bell to ring, so I wrote a letter and I understand it's still up on the wall for the other patients to read... and maybe feel hope.

Cancer of the oesophagus is so difficult to treat when you are older. It took my father.

I'm pleased that Mickey has got one over on it. I'm pleased for anyone to beat it.

Ring the bell and live life to the full.

Hope and pray for Mikeys recovery. Robbo gave him the advice of a friend, to get himself sorted and other rallied around with support to their credit. Mikey has been able to find his inner straight, which he had all the time.

Mike G, I know you have been down that road, and are shining example of what belief, and modern medicine can do in the way of treating this horrible disease.

I consider myself to have been another privileged person in the fact that I have met you in person, and if I may add, hope to do again!

Which leads me to the latest meeting of TW, which as before was held in the Exelcsior, Dale Street, Liverpool. While it didn't have the numbers anticipated, the ones who did attend, were a credit to life in general and ToffeeWeb in particular.

Thanks to Dave Abrahams for organising the event, and has my testimony to being one of the best human beings, long may we continue to have such events, as it is not only putting faces to names but also enjoying the company of genuine Everton loving associates.

Decent player - probably not at his best by the time he arrived at Everton. Always looked liked he enjoyed his pies and a few pints. Quintessential 70s "professional" soccer player.

Hope the cancer stays away.

I've only just stumbled on this article. I was unaware of MIckey Thomas's illness. If anyone knows how I can contact him personally, would they let me know please, as I was diagnosed and successfully treated for a very similar sounding malignant tumour in the upper GI area of my oesophagus in the summer of 2013 at Clatterbridge Hospital on the Wirral.

If someone could put me in touch, I may be able to offer Mickey some support through my own experience. Trust me, all cancer patients need to hear about the winners.

My prognosis at that time was very grim, they tell you not to look at the stats online, but we all do... I had a horrendous time and felt close to death at one stage, but I have survived to tell my story.

Thank God, I was recently discharged by my oncologist, all clear, 6 years on. It was a terrifying experience for anybody to go through and not something I really wish to go into detail about here. But if Mickey would like to hear my story, I'd be only too happy to oblige.

I can only speak truthfully for myself. It may be that in doing so, I can give others hope. And I most certainly extend that offer to anybody out there who is presently going through it.
