SportPesa, the Kenya-based betting firm that is Everton FC's primary shirt sponsor, has announced that it is cancelling all sports sponsorships due to regulatory clampdowns in Africa.

In a statement released today, the company said:

"SportPesa as a business has been subjected to punitive measures by regulators such as delayed license renewal and the suspension of paybill numbers with these actions considerably reducing the level of business operations.

"This has brought about immense pressure on the business necessitating a reevaluation of some plans. We regrettably wish to announce that due to the uncertainty of this situation SportPesa will be cancelling sports sponsorships effective immediately. All clubs and partners will have received notices as provided for in their contracts."

The move does not affect SportPesa's partnership with Everton which is run through SportPesa UK, a separate entity.

The quicker we can wave goodbye to these cowboys the better!

Surely there's decent and stable sponsor out there somewhere for us?

We have one decent brand... we must surely be able to find another – USM, for instance?
