Everton confirm squad numbers for 2019-20

Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Michael Keane are the main changes to last season's numbers which have now been set for the new season following the closure of the transfer window.

The Brazilian moves from No. 30 to No. 7 while Keane takes 5 and Calvert-Lewin assumes the mantle of the famous No. 9 jersey.

Moise Kean had already selected 27 and other newcomers Alex Iwobi and Djibril Sidibé take 17 and 19 respectively.

Fringe players Cuco Martina, Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie have been given numbers for the new season while Oumar Niasse switches to 29.

So no 4 or 6. Defensive numbers are kept clear. No numbers for Gibson or Feeney. 15 and 16 are also kept clear. Is this a sign to January additions? Or more likely due to the fact that Mina likes 13, Holgate is sticking with 2, and Gbamin choose 25, whilst Delph took the 8 after Gomes choose 21 instead? There was no real defenders to take the more significant numbers.

And what's in a number anyway? Who cares? I like to see the good players have more traditional numbers, so me!

Not much subtlety there! The last 4 outfield numbers!

I am probably the only one who thinks that Niasee could still do a job for us as a sub in order to create absolute chaos!

I hope they all find decent clubs. for a number of reasons!

There's still time to "get rid" to continental clubs as their window closes later than ours.

Having said that, you can only sell (or loan) to people who want to buy (or loan) what you're offering, mate.

Regarding the likes of Gibson, Feeney and other up-and-coming stars from the U23 side, I think most of them are under 21 (or whatever the age cutoff is this season) and don't need to be listed in the main squad.

They will have numbers assigned, but I've given up expecting to see them listed on the official site. Only when they are named as Premier League subs (or when they play in the Checkatrade Trophy) will we see their shirt numbers confirmed.

Can we still sell to European clubs? Niasse, Mirallas, Martina and Bolasie would most likely end up in Turkey? Probably close on 𧷤k a week being paid to those 4!

Could Martina be kept as a backup centre-half?

In the case of Bolasie and Mirallas, even if a loan Club agreed to a loan and half the wages, they would probably still be on more than their highest paid player.

I was a bit concerned after reading Steve Ferns's post about Gibson and Feeney not being included either, but didn't realise that U-21s don't need to be, but surely it would give those lads a 'boost' to at least know they were in the peripheral plans, and be allocated a number.

Why do so many claim the No 9 shirt at Everton is iconic? Not too many "Legends" have worn it, and we ain't had that many in recent years as it is.

We really are stuck with 28, 29, 30 & 31, not to mention the goal machine Tosun. Martina may be of use to the squad(?) but we really could have done without the last 2 Everton managers.

I certainly can Sean, but i'm one of those who don't consider Duncan a legend. Rom Lukaku scored more in just 4 seasons (and I don't remember him being sent off).

The issues I had with Rom were his attitude and inconsistency. He'd score a hat full of goals in one half of the season then nothing for the other half. His attitude stinks of entitlement rather than earning respect. Just look at his behaviour with Utd when trying to force through a move. The guy could be a legend anywhere if he bothered to knuckle down and apply himself consistently. Sadly I suspect he'll be pushing for a move from Inter to PSG or Juve (pick your next tear club) in the not too distant future.

They'll be on the back of the programme from the first home game, Michael. I meant that they weren't upgraded from number 82 to number 24 for example. Just to show they were now part of the first-team squad.

There are 27 on this list. We should be registering 25 for the Premier League today, so 2 of those on the list must be loaned out as they will be ineligible to play in a Premier league game. As Michael has said, players like Gibson and Feeney were under 21 on January 1st so available for all matches. Iwobi, Sigurdsson and Schneiderlin were trained at a club in England for 3 years before reaching 21, so they don't count in the 17 non English trained players allowed in the 25.

Oops, Update... Tom Davies only turned 21 in June, so just one needs to leave.

Moise Kean does not need to be registered listed. He's only 19. The Under-21 rule applies to all players of all nationalities.

Joe, all teams have their iconic number, 7 for Man United and the red shite. But for us, it's always been 9 for us. That's the number we've had most of our best players wear.

Hi Joe [11& [13] shirt numbering became compulsory in 1939, and Dixie Dean actually wore the number 9 in the 1933 FA Cup Final. The list that Sean [12] posted is testament to the qualities of the players concerned.


Duncan Ferguson is regarded as a legend by some supporters for his commitment to the team. Lionel Messi, was recently sent off in a game, I believe it was an Argentinian game, should he relinquish the accolade of 'Legend'?

I really hope the 9 shirt inspires Calvert-Lewin to embody the spirit of Everton forwards past and kick on to new levels this season which is make or break for him.

Steve #1, on defensive numbers, 23 seems to have been having a good run over the years. So, like you say, what's in a number, it's the player wearing it that's important.

Some fans think Schnides can do a good job for us so I see no reason why Bolasie or Mirrallis couldn't.

Sometimes you need luck so Niasse could be our supersub match winner.

Have we learned nothing these last 3 seasons?

In more interested in players than numbers and defensively it will be interesting (nail biting), to see how good a coach Silva is without Gana and Zouma.
