Like previous posters above sorry to see him go, but it was inevitable really once he had declared it was his dream move. Although I do admire the lad after saying it before the January window, and the move not happening, he still played his heart out for us, most players would have sulked and just gone through the motions.

Also agree with Steve ferns post @3, I think we could be stronger with a change of tactics, Gana was relied on too much as a safety net and most attacks seemed too slow.

Gana deserves a chance to move on with his career, especially given the way he's conducted himself in January.

Reality is, after the mindless spending of the pre brands days, taking that sort of fee for a 30 year old is inevitable. If we can reinvest and get s younger player at a cost neutral figure, it has to be done.

I think the sort of player Everton want though are going to bide their time. We are not in Europe, not in London. we aren't a city who call up Atletico and are the pinnacle of rodri's ambitions. The only way Everton can get quick deals done are for players who Everton is the pinnacle of their career ambition (Lossl) or players whose link with Everton makes them a choice they want to make above others (Gomes)

Identifying and actually seeing through transfers are two separate things.

I have no problem with him wanted to go and he has conducted himself brilliantly since the interest started from PSG. It probably was agreed in December that if he still wanted to go in the summer then we would't stand in his way - but this should always have been dependent on PSG meeting the fee that Everton are happy with.

We still haven't replaced Lukaku 2 years since we sold him and had to endure Neville and Heitinga as our central midfield maestros going further back. There are countless examples of us not having adequate cover for certain parts of the pitch.

Despite getting Gomes to sign a permanent deal and signing Delph, looks like the squad at present is weaker than it ended last season. Still no centre forward signed and the only rumour about one is Kean a 19 year old from Juventus, to replace 21 year old DCL. With Tosun and Niasse as back up. This doesnt much look like a side who can compete for a top 6 place.

I am 83 and in all my time following my beloved Blues the decline and lack of ambition has never been so apparent, except when we sold one of the greatest players this club or any other has ever had, you all know who, Alan Ball of course. I stopped going a few years back now (age and lack of funds) but I don't think I could sit through some of the garbage I watch on TV – the constant back and side passing, mostly to the opposition...: oh yes, I'm still talking about the blues.

If you guys are honest you cannot argue because facts don't lie, a club without ambition, a laughable board and a manager who came from Watford (after being SACKED!!!!) I'm sorry, gents, but I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

For those of you who are saying Gana is a limited footballer: he's not in the team for making defence splitting passes, dribbling past players, scoring goals etc. His job is to break up play, tackle and cover ground and he's one of the best players in Europe at doing this, hence the reason why one of the best club's in Europe (PSG) have just signed him.

Gana has always looked like a top athlete to me (not like Wayne Rooney at the same age) and I think PSG will get 5 good years out of him at the top level. Trust me, 㿈 million is way too cheap!

And yes, it can be applied to some players, but should not be the rule that dictates our thoughts.

Gueye has been our best player since the moment he first stepped on the pitch in our shirt.

He is a rare talent, hence why PSG wanted him, he could be the difference to them winning the Champions League or going out once again in the quarters. And they got him for the price of Tyrone Mings.

I'd say now that our defense is far more solid, we should be able to compromise with someone having slightly lower tackling stats but more capabilities for forward runs/passes. Someone that can start counter attacks with vision immediately after gaining possession. Players like Gueye or McCarthy that win the ball and deliver 5 yard sideways passes when the opposition has committed players forward, seems like such a wasted opportunity.

Regarding the fee, signing a player for 7 million and selling for 4 times that 3 years later, after the player has indicated that they want to leave is a great bit of business. We already rejected 2 bids from PSG, so its not like we have rolled over and died. Can't get my head around people that think he is worth more than that, especially considering we bought Gomes in for 22m?

Nor can I subscribe to the sangfroid attitude of some "oh well, we shouldn't block him from his dream move".

He had three years to run on his contract which he willingly signed just 12 months ago. His form didn't dip in January when denied the move. It got better. Not a man to sulk and down tools, then.

Unlike so many more players we would like to get off the books but can't due to their high wages and long contracts, we were in a strong bargaining position when mega-bucks PSG came calling and yet we appear to have been meek and compliant in letting Gueye go without a fight for - in this market - a very modest fee.

I can only hope that behind the scenes Brands has got an exciting replacement lined up. Doesn't have to be a like-for-like for Gana, simply because there are very few players capable of doing what he did game after game after game.

Whoever it is will have to learn on the job which potentially could compromise the expected points return to a very, VERY benevolent opening fixture list in the first couple of months of the new season.

Gueye was our best player.

Gueye was also much more capable than he is given credit. We was a tackling machine, and that is all over the pitch, not just in front of the back 4, meaning he won the ball back in attacking positions.

He was also very athletic and could charge forward with the ball. Yeah, his shooting was a bit limited like, but it weren't we'd be talking about one of the best players of his generation.

Fact is, he was for
3 years our best player and we have sold him, and now we will have to sign a midfielder to replace him which is not easy.

I wonder if he'll be firing on all cylinders next season, after our season, playing the AFCON in the Egyptian heat. Knowing Gana, he'll take in in his stride. I'll guess he'll be rested in the relative easy Ligue 1 matches, to do what he's been bought for, in the Champions League games.

It must be a joy to play alongside a player who puts in a shift, and nearly always with a smile on his face.

Didn't get his move in the Spring. Didn't sulk. Didn't pitch his toys out of the ol' pram. Just put his head down, worked hard for the team, and never, ever complained.

The man conducted himself as well as any professional I've seen.

To those wringing their hands in anguish, I would ask, "Did Everton wrap up when they parted company with Jimmy Gabriel, Alan Ball, similar warriors; and in different circumstances, Tony Kay?" The answer is a resounding No! In my view, no player is irreplaceable, although, they maybe difficult to replace.

The phrase 'The King is dead, long live the King' springs to mind.

I think Gana's improvement in his passing towards the end of last season was down to Silva. He needs all our players to be comfortable in possession. In that sense Gana wasn't ideal but he raised his game. The replacement will have those attributes in place before he gets here, is my thinking.

I haven't seen anyone claiming this is 'terminal' for Everton FC.

What I do see is a lot of people acknowledging he has been one of our better players since he joined the club and expressing remorse that - once again - Everton has sold one of its better players at the peak of his powers, still with 3 years on his contract, for a (relatively) modest fee in a sellers' market.

Perfectly reasonable observations and no need for others to fabricate and attribute 'hysteria and over-reaction' to such views.

To build a successful football team the aim is to retain your better players and recruit more good players. We continue to do the exact opposite, thus stalling any possible progress, year on year.

To throw Alan Ball's departure into the mix is hardly a glowing example of how the club didn't 'wrap up' when he moved on to Arsenal.

Of course Everton continued without Alan Ball, as they will continue without Gana Gueye. It has done for 141 years and will in all likelihood continue for another 141 years (presuming the planet lasts that long...).

But the shocking, premature departure of Alan Ball was the start of our demise and left us bereft and in the wilderness for 15 years. It made a HUGE impact on our history at the time t'other lot rose to dominance when, having won the title in 1970, Everton looked best placed to rule that decade.

And - NO! - before anyone takes a cheap swing, I am NOT bracketing Gana Gueye in the same category as 'who's-the-greatest-of-them-all?'

Gueye's been a good servant but this was clearly a boyhood dream and the opportunity might not come in another year or two so no judgement for moving. When we couldn't sell him in January and evidently had a gentlemen's agreement he just stuck to his task (and was if anything better than ever in a late-blooming side), meanwhile when PSG came knocking with a little more money the club obviously held out for the most they could get but ultimately kept to their word.

Missing out on a move in January was tough for Gana, but he took it on the chin and probably then produces his best 3 or 4 month period of his 3 year Everton career, seemingly typical of the man who set himself high standards.

I'd much rather him stayed, especially as I don't benefit from the fee the club receive, it doesn't affect my life so even at £60m I'd rather us have kept him. That said football is a business and Gana is not irreplaceable, he's a top draw number 6 though and you only need to check out his stats over his premier league career to see how difficult the lad will be to replace.

This is football though and transfers are as big a part of football as there is, we have to try to keep making a profit on players who give a good 3 to 5 year service at the club, this will keep the club motoring forward as a business.

We want to brake the top 4 ideally, all the top 6 crap is a load of my arse, the only way you make any extra funds to compete with the best is to break into the champions league.

Gana has gone along with many many other players, only really Gana out of them players actually played first team football at the blues so if we recruit well then we will be able to improve as a team.

Gana, Vlasic, Oneykuru, Robinson, Lookman, Galloway, Williams (old and young), Galloway, Charsley, and many more all left the club, if were honest we could do Miralas, Bolasie, Besic and Pennington also and only Gana will be noticed as an absentee.

The club are doing the right thing, we need to move out 5 years of fuck ups and get the club back on a straight and narrow.

Silva and Brands need time, I just hope Silva gets enough points in the bank early doors to relieve some pressure.

Fully understand we are under pressure to cut wages and raise revenue, so why not learn from being stiffed in the market for the last four years and drive a bloody hard bargain?
