Jonjoe Kenny: 2018-19 scout report
Saturday, 13 July, 2019This summer, Jonjoe Kenny completed a loan move to FC Schalke 04. This tactical analysis and scout report looks at Kenny's performances up until this point, and what he can bring to Schalke.
The report concludes that Kenny should benefit immensely from a regular starting role, although he has some major tweaks to make in his game. He will hope he can return to England ready to contribute to an Everton side still trying to gatecrash the top six.

I wouldn't take it too seriously, Dave. I thought it might be of interest to some to see that kind of in-depth assessment of the player's apparent qualities and foibles. Or not. I presume you didn't like what he had to say?

Using the very same data as he presents, you could do a full hatchet job on Kenny or present him as the next Dani Alves.
There is no context offered on the stark numbers presented. For example, under 'Lack of Progress', he quotes how his interceptions and clearances fell last season in comparison to the previous season.
No consideration given to the fact that the 'better' numbers were compiled under a defensive coach - Allardyce - who set his sides up to soak it up under the cosh (so he would have been busier defensively, intercepting and clearing the ball), whilst last season he played for Silva, a more expansive coach who prefers a high press in the opponents half. Less opportunities for defenders to be intercepting and clearing.
Or flagging up how his passing has improved from his loan period three years ago at League Two Oxford. Well, der! How many lower league teams play a PL pass and possession game, rather than whack and hope?
It sounds as if JJK has little or no competition for his position at Schalke and that Wagner is a good fit for his style of play.
I for one will certainly keep my eye on his numbers next season.

The point I wish to make is that I believe the Premier League clubs should be looking at giving English (UK) talent the opportunity to develop like Alex Ferguson did at Manchester United even though he was told you will not win anything with kids playing.
I am totally frustrated with clubs chasing all over the world for talent that in lots of cases turns out to be no better than home gown talent.
