Koeman excited by Everton 'project'

Ronald Koeman has finally been announced as Everton's new manager
The 53-year-old was finally unveiled as the Blues' boss this morning following protracted negotiations with Southampton and the need to tie up the final loose ends but he is now able to talk about his new role.
Koeman talked about the need to get the team playing for the fans again and work towards bringing the glory days back to the Toffees.
"It's a great feeling. When I first had contact from the Chairman and Farhad Moshiri, I was interested to listen and to hear of the big project that they want for the coming seasons in the Premier League. I'm very pleased to be part of that."
"The ambition is always to give the fans spirit, to show them that the team is always fighting for everything and to try to play good football.
"[When talking about] Everton and their history and it's a big one. To try and reach what [the club] did in the past is difficult but with the people at the club and with the fans, everything is possible."
Koeman has experience of Goodison Park, both as a player and a manager with Southampton and he says he is looking to savouring the special atmosphere that can be created in the intimate environs of the Grand Old Lady,
"To play away against Everton, it's nice," the Dutchman continued. "There's always a good atmosphere on the pitch. [The stands] are really close to the pitch and that's good because every team at home like to have the 12th player behind them.
"But it's all about the players. You have to win their respect and their confidence and we're looking forward to the start of the season."

Will be interesting to see the teams he selects pre season. Think a few who were first choice for Martinez are going to be disappointed.

The ' everything is possible' part was encouraging.

Hopefully that's a state of the art stadium on the docks and ambition to smash through that glass ceiling of the top 4.
Exciting being a blue for once.

Hope he knows how to use lots of money. Buy a few class players not loads of average players, please, and I'll be happy. COYB

On the other hand, that's exactly what he's done.

Team winning on a consistant basis.
Champions league qualification.
New ground.
For this to happen financial backing must happen. It is here with a board intent on making it happen. Time will tell, but for the first time it's not a distant dream.

I wonder where that interview was filmed? Certainly not in Liverpool.
14 Posted 14/06/2016 at 22:09:40
Not one to mess about, Ronald, I suspect.

We all knew there was a lot of talent at the club but somehow RM was not utilizing it properly or he was not doing much in the motivation department which resulted in a severe lack of confidence throughout the whole team even after getting a goal ahead.
Nothing is certain however and fingers crossed with Moshiri at the financial helm together with the new manager we can finally get this club back to where it should be, firmly with the elite.

He naturally still appears detached but I like the underlying message he is already giving the players and on the other hand he is talking of winning the players' respect.
So far, so good - in fact he just might turn out to be the real "phenomenal" manager we have been seeking!

23 Posted 14/06/2016 at 23:04:57
I wonder what Ronnie will do with that blank canvas picture frame at the top of the stairs at Finch Farm now?
I can't wait to see who we sign first, a goalie I hope for starters, also Ronnie Koeman's blue and white army rolls off the tongue much better than ofm name does, it's a good sign. ;-)

No promises of Champions League football, no Bill practically girating his crutch at the new man and going all giggly when he spoke to the press.
Much more low key, but an undercurrent of determination with Kenwright restricted to a few sentences.
I like it!

He can say WTF he likes, it's just the opening stanza.
He came for the dosh (fine, no problem) he apparently has designs on becoming Barça's boss, well good so he's going to have to succeed seriously here then !
He's an employee. He performs well, he gets the due bonuses and some approval. He performs poorly, he gets bollocked and jumps in a taxi.
A few smarmy words won't persuade me of fuck all, results, silver and then I'll reconsider.
I've been fed bullshit and dross for close on three decades (one glorious FA Cup apart), I don't have another three decades left. So Ronald lad, get silver, loads of it, 'cos I've heard the talk before.
Silver Ronald, Silver.

Our first match ?
The MASSIVE Southampton away ?
It's certain as Sepp Blatters steaming hot balls.

What I love about Koeman, is that he takes no shit!
Hard work, right attitude, play for the team, entertain the fans. - these are his main points... I for one, am ridiculously happy and excited for what lies ahead!
Onward & upward!!!
(PS - Wijnaldum, Ziyech/Yarmolenko, Benaga, Ryan & Cillesen/Forster, Van Dijk/Dragovic/Mustafi/Manolas, and possibly a RB, Van Der Wiel has good experience...)
Hopefully, we start moving forward at quiet a pace - so players like Barry (even though he's been fantastic - could be offered a squad player & coaching role), Gibson (good squad player to have), need to be moved away from slightly - but kept in the change room!
The only change I want to see - is Lukaku gone!!! Wrong attitude, and I know that Koeman will have problem sitting him on the bench, or in the stands for that attitude - which could be a very good kick in the pants for him! I hope he goes to PSG, for some good money £65mil would be my price for him, but anything around £60mil I'd be happy with.
Get in Janssen/Milik, players with the right attitude instead!
Lastly, I hope he uses the youth well! The likes of Galloway, Kenny, Foulds, Pennington, Browning, Holgate, Ledson - I would like to see a very intense preseason from them!
But I would prefer them to spend a season, where they play every game, preferably in the Championship, if not in League 1. Especially the likes of Galloway, who needs a bit of toughening up and some bulk added on!
I'd keep, Davies, Dowell, Garbutt in the squad for next season.

But circumstance led to me getting a chance to speak to an old friend last night who I hadn't had contact with in years. This friend is a respected and very active first team member at southampton. His comments on Ronald were "he will do well at you's, he simplifies things and brings a relaxed environment to the club".
I was surprised at this, as I thought he was gonna say he was a tough hard nose high on disaplin.
Oh, and before anyone asks, no my old friend won't be leaving to join us as much as I'm biased and rate him as one of their top players. Will more than likely finish his career down there.
36 Posted 15/06/2016 at 12:06:37
I am certain his first job will be to give Lukaku's father a fucking left hook, tell Stones he's not going anywhere, and send Barkley on a self-esteem building weekend with Donald Trump.

like you I watched all these great midfield players, but their ilk doesnt exist anymore when Scholes,Viera and Keane retired then so did that type of midfield player. The players like Mahrez and Silva and Payet are good footballers but they couldnt take the game by the scruff of the neck like the players you mentioned. The game has changed and sadly it seems the man who could not only tackle ferociously but also distribute the ball brilliantly don't exist. They are either very good at either tackling or distributing but sadly not both.

Don't know if I'm jealous or disgusted that someone gets that amount of money per day.

An analogy would be the pretty girl in the village who keeps losing her boyfriends to the beautiful girls in the city. It must be hard for them to stomach but they'll attract a good candidate.
I'm also under no illusions that ambitious Koeman is a long term prospect for us either. He'll use us to raise his profile for a move to a bigger project. Such is life. As long as he improves us along the way, I'll be happy.
