Everton trio make Ireland squad

There is no place for Darron Gibson, however, who was deemed surplus requirements despite starting this evening's friendly defeat to Belarus.
Coleman was on the bench for the Republic's final warm-up match but McCarthy wasn't risked due to a thigh injury. Shane Long scored Ireland's only goal in a 2-1 defeat from which McGeady and Gibson were withdrawn in the second half.
The squad also includes ex-Everton defender Shane Duffy who still plies his trade with Blackburn Rovers.
O'Neill's announcement just before the Uefa deadline rounds out Everton's representatives at this summer's European Championships which are as follows:
Ross Barkley (England), John Stones (England), Romelu Lukaku (Belgium), Seamus Coleman (Rep. of Ireland), James McCarthy (Rep. of Ireland), Aiden McGeady (Rep. of Ireland), Shani Tarashaj (Switzerland)

That whole drink/meds shambles? Was that the underlying reason he just never got back to "match fitness"? Van der Shandy Syndrome?
He looks lean & mean again. So go on Darron, make us proud lad. Apply the "Bomber Bellew", philosophy… Otherwise, fuck off you self pitying sod and crawl into the bottom of your vintage single malt.
McGeady? Just jog on lad.
Jog on.

I wondered if it was the other way around with the injuries driving him to drink. Either way, when Moyes was here, he did very well for us. I even think he did well on the few occasions he was fit under Martinez.
I'd give him a 12-month deal and see how he does. He may decline and look for a longer deal elsewhere which is understandable but I'd be loathe to give him a new long-term deal.

I hope both Gibson and McGeady go to the Euros and do well only so we can sell them.
With a new manager coming in we really have to have a clean sweep of the squad, no favours. It's going to be a massive rebuild of Everton. I hope we choose the right man.

If he hasn't got the fuckin nuts, then he drives a fabulous car from a terrific house, but he's welcome to drive my van, fill my skips, and make the tea. 㿞 notes per 12 hour day? I can't afford more!

The Irish must be scraping the barrel if they cannot find eleven players better than McGeady and Gibson. Man Utd did well dumping Gibson on us. I have no time for any footballer who cannot act professionally when so many working men and women perform diligently at their jobs for far less.

As for McGeady, same old story: no end product, pity really.
We will be doing well if we can loan them out for next season.

Although McGeady has good technically ability, he flatters to deceve and his attitude is questionable. He is very close to being the deluded one's worst signing.

No surprise to anyone who follows Ireland that Gibbo missed out. Martin O'Neill was always going to pick fellas like Meyler, Quinn and Hendrick that will run all day, over a less workmanlike but more creative ball player. McGeady has benefitted from being a favourite of O'Neill going back to his Celtic days.

Over the course of the domestic season neither player has shown enough to deserve a place in an international squad but it says alot about our options.

Gibson didn't stand out in a central midfield role and a string of misplaced passes and a pretty ordinary performance has led to him losing out to the likes of Reading's Stephen Quinn – enough said.
McGeady was typical McGeady; plenty of possession, glimpses of his undoubted talent, but very, very little end product. Should have been hauled off in the first half and should consider himself extremely fortunate to have made the cut. This, I presume, is down to O'Neill's unwavering (some may say misplaced) loyalty to the player.
Can't see any future for either of them at Everton. And I say that as an Irish fan who loves to have Irish players at our club. Also delighted to see Shane Duffy make the cut. He played at the weekend against the Dutch and put in another solid defensive showing.

McGeady would've been picked if he was playing in the Leauge of Ireland. O'Neill sees him as one of few players that can create something out of nothing. He's a 15 minute chase the game substitute.
Nobody can say that Gibson deserved to go but I'd have brought him. We have a midfield short of any creativity other than Hoolahan. Quinn, Meyler, Hendrick, McCarthy and Whelan makes for depressing reading if a game needs to be chased.
Much like the game at the Hawthorns last autumn, Gibson would've given the team something different if they were in need of a late goal.
For all the abuse that McGeady took on here for sitting on his arse and not leaving in January so that he could hold on to his wages (which made no sense as the move was always going to be a loan), Darron did exactly that and not a word of criticism.
I wish he was going but I have no sympathy for him.

Actually think Ireland will spring up a surprise. Hope they spring up a couple, and they get through to the knock-out stages, out of a very tough group. COYBIG!

What I mean with Gibson is that, all things being equal, he should be on the plan and in the team as he's a very good player. Him not being there at his peak is detrimental to the team.
However, he didn't move in January to get playing time (I have to assume someone would have taken him). He had to know that moving was important and I'd be pretty sure O'Neill told him as much.
So he didn't want it and therefore it's the Irish fans I feel sorry for. Until we get the beer in our hands at least.
Tickets sorted for two of the three games so just one obstacle to get over.

If Moshiri is honest about wanting European football then we must shop really well and add at least two or three proven star players plus young players with definite potential. Perhaps we have a few already on the books who will save us some money, but we are needing to bring in a lot of new blood to excite the fans and revitalize the squad.
I hope that Moshiri and his new manager can persuade Lukaku and Stones to stay alongside Barkley. But we still desperately need a top play maker and another forward player who can guarantee double figures in goals scored. I hope that we keep Robles, Coleman, Stones, Holgate, Pennington, Galloway, McCarthy, Lukaku, Barkley, Dowell, Davies, Jagielka and Baines. I am not sure about Funes Mori, Besic or Oviedo as I do not think they are top quality.
Unfortunately, Barry, Pienaar, Osman and Hibbert are on borrowed time. McGeady, Kone and Gibson are nowhere near good enough to be considered. Niassie was a bad signing in my opinion. I would hang on to Mirallas and Lennon as subs. Deulofeu is another who might become a top player but will he stay?
Any new manager is going to need the whole of the pre season period to weigh up the present squad and use whatever transfer fund he is given wisely. He will need to have lots of man management skill if he is to hang on to Lukaku and Stones. God help us one and all!!

Keane said that he gave McGeady "credit" for seeking more action at Wednesday but admitted he was disappointed with the winger's display.
"He can do a lot better but maybe that's the story of Aiden's career," added Keane.

It wouldn't be the same without a bit of drama before the boats sailed though, so I hope you sort out your insurance in time!

Eugene Ruane has got it right. We are about to throw the dice.( By the way Eugene put me right if I have misread you) but we can plan, interview, and get it right or wrong.

It's never dull with Roy. Listening to him and remembering him play three days after watching Pepe for Real Madrid is an eye opener for the modern game.
I wouldn't let him manage an U-10 team though. He doesn't have the tolerance for players that are inferior to him when he played. And that's a lot of players.

If we get a manager NOT as BK understands that term I think we could do worse than let Seamus off the leash as captain to inject some steel to certain others whilst the game's afoot, not just in the vacuous quotes required by the Press after yet another defeat.

I could go on with Delboy (a lot to do to even get fitness, never mind Premier league level), Funes-Mori (may have the fitness but not the pace, but jury's still out on EPL suitability) but the endless night of being an Everton fan grinds ever onwards.
