Sevilla chief: Emery is not on the market

Speculation has been mounting that the 44-year-old manager was set for talks with the Toffees this week as the Goodison hierarchy search for a successor to Roberto Martinez but Sevilla's head honcho is confident his man isn't going anyway.
Emery has steered Los Rojiblancos to three successive Europa League triumphs and has become one of Europe's most intriguing managerial candidates but has already indicated his happiness at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Nevertheless, there have been reports in the British press that the former Valencia and Spartak Moscow boss was keen to speak with Everton.
“The coach has understood our idiosyncrasies perfectly,” Castro said on Sevilla TV. “He is crazy about football, the hours he puts in, how he manages the squad. I say that now after being successful, but also at the start of the season.
“I can tell you he has said he is not on the market, and is not thinking about anything else.”
The field of potential candidates for the Blues' hotseat has been narrowing in recent days, with Jose Mourinho on the verge of joining Manchester United and Ronald Koeman reportedly set to sign new terms at Southampton.
Departing Ajax boss Frank de Boer is keen on talking to Everton while Manuel Pellegrini is very much in the frame after discussing the position with Farhad Moshiri. Lucien Favre, an "outsider" candidate mooted by the media, has become the new manager at Nice while it's been confirmed that Rafael Benitez will stay on at Newcastle United.

What was he supposed to say anyway, come and get him? Make the inquiries, get permission to interview him, agree on the price, get him here, and start building the squad. Simple.

De Boer and Pellegrini are favourites but I'd take a look at AVB and Bielsa too. Although we'll probably settle for Moyes such is the imagination and romantic streak of boys pen Billy

One thing that's a little surprising is that we're taking this long to appoint anyone. Martinez was a dead man walking for a fairly long time so I would have thought the hunt for a new man would have been started a while ago. Can't help thinking that the new man has already been identified but for whatever reason cannot yet be announced, e.g. we have to wait until 01 June or something.
The bookies are non the wiser with the favourite changing from day to day so either the club know but have been amazing at keeping it stum or the reality is that the process really only started once Martinez was let go. If the latter then that is truly worrying as it would suggest they were thinking of keeping him on up until the last minute!

We have the opportunity to go big with the massive amounts of TV revenue, so what do we do?
We fucking dither and interview a serial loser in OFM, get a fucking grip Everton FFS!

If we wanted Nigel Pearson or dare I say it David Moyes then they'd already be a picture of them holding the scarf.
Aiming high and assessing the best candidates takes a little more time. Good things come to those who wait. Hopefully.
I think we will see one of De Boer, Emery or Pellegrini in by end of next week latest and any of those will do for me.
19 Posted 25/05/2016 at 19:50:26
Still time for Moyes to be holding up the scarf. Don't get carried away..We're not safe yet.
What about AVB, Sam?
20 Posted 25/05/2016 at 19:56:32
21 Posted 25/05/2016 at 19:56:36
I'd have AVB. Think he's very underrated and a smart cookie
22 Posted 25/05/2016 at 20:01:18
I'd crank up the pressure and offer his agent ٢-5m a season. I can't see Seville or Milan matching that.
23 Posted 25/05/2016 at 20:29:58
I would take FdB. Pellegrini is decent but don't want a short term manager.
Sam, I agree AVB is underrated but there's something about his style that rubs everyone off the wrong way. Chelsea then Tottenham and now Zenit. If he is willing to be a co-manager, maybe, but do we know what's wrong with him and find someone to complement him?
24 Posted 25/05/2016 at 20:41:19
He's on his way to manage EFC to a great era... School of Science PHASE 3...
25 Posted 25/05/2016 at 20:54:51
1 Mourinho
2 Koeman
3 Rafa
.. seem to all be off the agenda now. So as far as I'm concerned we won't be getting a premier manager.
So we'll now have to settle for either an untried or tested experiment in the form of De Boer, or a past his sell by date, in the form of Pellegrini
One positive, at least the Board aka Mosh, are taking their time this time around and not jumping into appointing the first thing that comes into their head.
26 Posted 25/05/2016 at 20:55:55
Pellegrini or FDB for me.
Either will do very nicely thank you.
This is a crucial appointment an I am pleased that the club are taking their time.
Mourinho, Koeman and Emery were never realistic targets in my opinion.
Mourinho always wanted MU, Emery has Champions League and Koeman has the Europa league and obviously likes Southampton , hence him signing a 2 year extension.
The board are taking their time and this reassures me that Moyes will not be getting the job.
Think about it, If they wanted to offer it to him why haven't they done it already? He is available and would accept the job in a heartbeat but he won't be getting it in my opinion.
27 Posted 25/05/2016 at 21:04:43
Show some ambition Everton offer him £6 million make it impossible for him to turn us down. This man has had 2 very good seasons and he had half the team sold before he got there. He has eclipsed what Pochetinno did. This is not a gamble, he will go on to manage at the highest level.
The alternatives fill me with as much dread as when I heard we were talking to RM.
28 Posted 25/05/2016 at 21:06:36
It is concerning how long it is taking. We need to start rebuilding the squad asap.

"Today we are beyond delighted. We are ecstatic, truly blessed to welcome back the greatest manager in the history of this club. A man who, like I, in our darkest hour saved us from the brink and who gave us memories I replay in my mind every evening before I go to bed. What a moment. What a manager. Ladies and gentlemen. The best manager in Europe. Please welcome... Mr... David Moyes!"
You do this to me Everton and its goodbye. I'm dumping you.
30 Posted 25/05/2016 at 21:38:25
Managed Real Madrid, got Villarreal to CL semi and Malaga to quarters. Has won the premier league and lots of city players praised him. The other year City scored about 150 goals. For 2 years he would be a good appointment. Others are a risk.

Headline: Romours say Everton set to interview manager A.
Press: Manager A, are you interested in going to Everton?
Manager A: No, I'm about to sign a new contract.
Headline: Everton snubbed by Manager A.
Headline: Manager B says he would be interested in talking to Everton.
Press: have they spoken to you yet?
Manager B: not yet.
Headline: Everton snub Manager B.
Headline: Everton (want/want to talk to/make audacious approach for) Mourinho.
Press: Mr Mourinho, are there any substance to these reports?
Mr Mourinho: I cannot say. But I will be managing Man Utd, tomorrow.
Headline: Man Utd pay Mouriho $4 million to snub Everton.
Headline: Everton becoming desperate in manager search, as all of their targets say no.
Probably most of the names we are linked with are just press inventions. I just hope the one or two we are silently pursuing, are not Moyes.
44 Posted 26/05/2016 at 09:26:23
Emery has just won the Europa League and is in the Champions' League next year with a team that he'll surely see as a work in progress but some Everton fans reckon that he'll go to Everton purely for a few quid more. Maybe he deserves more credit than you.
Koeman, the same. Everton are such a big draw compared to Southampton? I don't think so.
Add to that that all of this is pure media speculation. Everton haven't interviewed anyone officially.
I think some of us need a new hobby for June each year and then another one for July when we get so annoyed that nobody's been signed.
Two weeks to the Euros lads. Try to focus on that and enjoy it.
45 Posted 26/05/2016 at 09:52:27
So far, my greatest relief in us not appointing any manager is that we haven't appointed the wrong manager (eg. Dave "The Human TseTse Fly" Moyes).
Bit like waking up with a hangover in 'Vegas and finding you aren't married to a buffalo in a dress !
46 Posted 26/05/2016 at 10:04:00
Personally I think it would be a mistake but even Moyes has to be an improvement on the last idiot.

Pellegrini 2/1 fav, FBD 7/2, Emery 4/1, Moyes 6/1, Koeman anything from 3/1 (but Betfair Exchange has just gone out to 30/1 on him so something must be going on....?), Giggs 12/1 (NEW!), MO'N 20/1, Hughes 25/1 etc.

I just think that Pelligrini, would'nt be that interesting, not to me anyway. Not saying for one minute that Lucy knows the manager, but if nothing can be said at the minute, then it's got to be someone who is still in a job, surely?
Giggs? Lowe? Emery, or Simeone? Maybe Zinadene? Put a fiver on each of them Mike, edge your bets!!

I would also be happy with Pellegrini. A nice safe, experienced pair of hands with the exciting possibility that he repeats past successes that he had with Villarreal and Malaga. Also we know he can manage egos. So Rom better beware!
64 Posted 26/05/2016 at 12:04:00
He has an eye for a player and is very experienced and has won the Premier League and the League Cup.
The more I think of it, the more I like the idea.
65 Posted 26/05/2016 at 12:04:07
I have met Moyes a couple of times and he is a nice guy but I don't want him back. Say good bye to the youth system if he does.
You just never know with Everton it could be somebody completely out of left field.
66 Posted 26/05/2016 at 12:10:42
Pellegrini does have a stylish look about him though; a bit like Arsene Wenger... yep, think he'd be a good un.

The bookies can hardly split Pellegrini, de Boer and Emery.
Whatever happens the manager we do get will probably be absolute hoop, and whoever we knock back will go on to be brilliant somewhere else.
71 Posted 26/05/2016 at 12:39:48
72 Posted 26/05/2016 at 13:02:28
Of course we are not privy to what happens behind closed doors, and maybe they are waiting for someone or a situation to be cleared before making their proper move?
73 Posted 26/05/2016 at 13:24:52
Oh dear... Would be a huge step backwards. Can you imagine what a laughing stock we would be. Has fucking tightarse cheapskate Kenwright's name all over it, this.

A man of integrity and class; I think we could do a lot worse.

Here is one out of left field Paulo Fonseca, Braga manager just won the Cup with them. Several reports on line that he will be interviewed.

*takes deep breath*
The only reason I would ever have Moyes back would be if we had a stadium at the docks and it was 100% guaranteed to be built (had already broken ground) and we needed some stability/mediocrity for a couple of years to stay in the division. I could wait for that.

83 Posted 26/05/2016 at 15:26:21
The scary bit for me is actually someone like FDB coming in and needing to REPLACE the ten or so players straight off. Is the money there? Or is it contingent on selling Lukaku and Stones? Will it work out given the Euro's is also in the way?
Anyway, its Everton so there is no way we will get everything, and unlikely half of it.
84 Posted 26/05/2016 at 15:28:37
Pellegrini insisted on smoking marijuana whilst wearing and large Rastafarian wig. Every time Moshiri asked a question he just said "Chill Winston". He's coming back next week.
Moyes had consumed 1.5 litres of Bell's Whisky. He held Moshiri up against the wall and threatened to "smash his face in" before breaking down in tears and crying for forgiveness into Bill Kenwright's lap. He's fled the country which is where these airport rumours have come from.
Emery couldn't speak a word of English and the interview turned into something like an episode of Fawlty Towers. Eventually Moshiri's patience ran out and he hit him over the head with a spoon.
85 Posted 26/05/2016 at 16:00:57
'Moyes would be an improvement on the last idiot?'
But when Moyes went we all said, 'Martinez! Well he has to be an improvement on the last idiot.' And on and on it goes.

Damian 92, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping we'll just land this one and done our managerial business for many years to come. I think we can compete financially but that one year left on his contract is tempting for him, he might want to see it out then move.
95 Posted 27/05/2016 at 04:23:20
I will be surprised if it is not Pelagrini.
96 Posted 27/05/2016 at 05:59:01
Ps . I would be disappointed if it is Pellegrini , can't help feeling that it would be a lazy appointment , don't get me wrong the guy has credentials but he is out work because City didn't want him anymore , he lives in the north west and clearly interested in the job , surely we can cast the net a bit wider ?
97 Posted 27/05/2016 at 11:45:56
98 Posted 27/05/2016 at 12:02:28
Pellegrini has blown £300m on bang average players such bony, Mangala, Navas, fernando, fernandhino etc and came 4th. We don't have £300m for him to squander. Man city were lucky to finish 4th and only have Agueros goals to thank for that but Pellegrini didn't buy him. People argue 4th was because the team new Guardiola was coming and wasn't playing for the club. Rubbish, they have to play out of their skins to be in Guardiolas eye.
A Pellegrini defence was almost as bad as ours so no ooooooooo thanks. Garbage
99 Posted 27/05/2016 at 12:21:47
What a bizarre thing to say on a football forum.
100 Posted 27/05/2016 at 12:24:20
I wouldn't mind Pellegrini, but would much prefer De Boer.
But saying Bony, Fernandhino, Fernando and even though I don't like him much, Navas - are 'bang average' is just wrong.
Fernandhino especially is absolute class! And Bony is just unlucky to be sitting bench behind Aguero and the star find, Iheanacho.
