U18s lose out vs Liverpool

Everton Under-18s remain top of the table despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

At a wet and windy Liverpool Academy, the Toffees with Matty Foulds starting in defence after being given permission to feature by Bury - fell behind early on. The Reds took the lead after just two minutes and scored again before the break.

Everton responded well, however, with Brewster proving a handful for the Reds defence but just as the visitors looked to be getting a foothold in the game, it was the hosts that doubled their advantage just before the half hour mark.

The Toffees came out after the break looking for an immediate way back into the game and 10 minutes into the second period they got just that when Brewster, fired home from close range his 11th goal of the campaign.

The momentum was with the Blues and winger Michael Donohue came closest to levelling when his impressive solo run and low drive hit the woodwork. Moments later, Donohue was causing problems once again as he beat his man before whipping in a dangerous cross which just evaded Jack Bainbridge and Nathan Broadhead at the far post. But the young Blues couldnt manage to turn their late pressure into an equaliser.

Everton U18s: OLoughlin, Lees, Myers, Yarney, Foulds, Kiersey, Donohue, Bainbridge, Brewster, Broadhead, Kinsella (81' Holland).
Subs not Used: Jones, Lavery, Yates, Bramall.
