Yarmolenko set to stay put

A £14.25m transfer for the 25-year-old appeared imminent late last week but a claim on Sunday by the Liverpool Echo that the Blues had moved on to Brazilian play-maker Bernard was the first indication that negotiations with Kiev have stalled.
Viktor Vatsko, a well-respected commentator in Ukraine suggested that Everton's reported interest in Bernard, currently with Shakhtar Donetsk, might have been a smokescreen designed to increase the urgency for Kiev's owner Igor Surkis on whom the decision to green-light the deal ultimately rests.
Vatsko explains that Surkis has a dilemma over either selling Yarmolenko without having a suitable replacement lined up or keeping him for Dynamo's Champions League campaign.
Ukrainian channel Football 1 TV reported, meanwhile, that Everton were set to fly Yarmolenko to Merseyside for the match against Manchester City but Surkis said he needed more time to think.
The latest word from Vatsko on Monday is that Surkis is pondering offering Yarmolenko a new contract to extend his stay in Kiev beyond next season, throwing further doubt on his desire to let the highly-rated Ukrainian international go. The player himself had said only a fortnight ago, however, that he didn't see much sense in signing a new deal to stay in Ukraine – it's his stated dream to play in England's Premier League and had been promised a move by Dynamo if a top club came in for him.
Everton would seem to fit the bill, particularly if sentiment in Ukraine is anything to go by. A poll on Sunday suggested that over 60% of football fans there thought that the move to Goodison would be a good one for the player and his first coach is quoted along the same lines:
"English fans will love Andriy's technical ability,"he said. "Everton will be a good stepping stone."
Yarmonlenko's first club, Yunist Chernihiv, also stand to benefit from his sale – they would be due a €50,000 development fee that they plan to use on installing a new pitch.
In the meantime, perhaps picking up the line from the Echo, Sky Sports have also reported that Everton have pulled out of talks while Ukrainian sources are saying that Kiev have identified Vorksla Poltava's winger, Artem Gromov, as a potential replacement for Yarmolenko for around €1.8m.
Shakhtar have denied any concrete interest in Bernard from Everton who continue to be linked with other targets, the latest of which is Juan Iturbe of Roma.
The last word so far on the topic from the Futbol Ukraine Twitter account that has been providing updates on the situation is that it was Everton who called off the talks once Surkis began stalling and that sources close to the Ukrainian club are saying that Yarmolenko will remain with them until January when he could be picked up on the cheap with six months left on his contract. Barcelona have been floated as potential suitors in that instance.

The link to Bernard seems just as unlikely, Shakhtar paid €25M for this player, file this one under 'never going to happen'.

If the reports are true; then we are NOT the only club who have walked away from a deal for him. There's something very difficult about capturing this player.

I actually got really excited for this one. Sometimes I fall for the trap and shame on me for it. Maybe we're the only team that hasn't received any Sky money all these years. That or check under the rug...

Going on today's performance and the use of substitutions, the manager is not going to use wingers as one of our goal scoring wingers (Mirallas), despite being declared fit, stayed on the bench again.

I have absolutely no confidence we'll get Bernard with only a week left to go. Even the signing of Mori, an unknown centre back, has been dragging on for about a week and now Martinez says that deal still isn't done!
We'll more than likely end up with Lennon as a last minute deadline day signing and then after a few days of being really angry and frustrated we'll all forget about how underwhelming we really are in the transfer market.

54 Posted 23/08/2015 at 19:37:45
Cleverley looks ok, if not really adds much to the dynamic he does put a shift in.
Deulofeu is still in my opinion only going to be a cameo squad player, I can't see him starting more than 12 or 15 matches when he is fit.
Has this Mori even officially signed yet??
We need a monumental week in the transfer market to give ourselves some realistic hope of challenging like we did two seasons ago.

Bernard to me, we don't have much success with Brazilians, sounds like another Jo.
Yarmolenko would have changed the landscape and given us that bit of class you need in the final third, again in the second half today there wasn't enough movement around the penalty box.
Who will we sign?

This is Everton. Be grateful for what we have. Howard and Barry and Pienaar and McGeady. Come on people. What more do we need. And Martinez will soon have us with no left-sided players. And about ten defensive midfielders. And don't forget Naismith.
I cannot wait for next season. Just to see were the "big" Sky TV money disappears to. Cause it won't go on players. And I have not even mentioned John Stones.

82 Posted 23/08/2015 at 21:44:04
I'll back up whoever mentioned it above, the Soviet block countries were / are an absolute pain to deal with. I worked in the area for 3 years and I don't think we concluded anything because the price kept moving and all levels of their management wanted sweetners to get things done. They believed the West had money to burn, and the worse thing: even their "legal" staff wanted cash upfront to clear anything.
83 Posted 23/08/2015 at 21:45:38
I imagine Martinez, like most managers, has certain players in mind and when these don't happen he moves down to his B list, then C list and so on. I just hope we aren't ending up on his S list.

Martinez has shown what he has as a manager and I think that's enough for me. We need a change and I don't think Yarmolenko, Mori, Dante or Messi would make a difference.
First time I'm saying it out loud: Martinez has to go.
96 Posted 24/08/2015 at 06:57:57
If Stones goes then I would expect uproar but sadly we will just piss and moan and not really do anything proactive to change things.

As a number 10 he may even be better suited than Yarmolenko, who I still have reservations about.

As much as I hate the way Chelsea have pursued John Stones, they haven't done anything wrong & I wish we were a bit more like that instead of just giving up.
Yarmolenko looks a world class or potential world class player at least. You don't get players like him without a bit of a fight so show a bit of ambition for once & give your fans something to smile about or get excited about FOR ONCE!!!!!
119 Posted 24/08/2015 at 14:00:55
Quite frankly the board are a disgrace. If the two clubs had agreed a fee of around 㾻- 㾾m as reported (depending on which source you believe), then it must be a case of Everton wanting to stagnate the payments over God-knows-how-many years that has ultimately put paid the player coming here.
I don’t care about Kenwright’s illness, the club have become a laughing stock under his tenure. I want him out.

Surely we should be used to it by now?
126 Posted 24/08/2015 at 14:52:48
I don't think this one is a conspiracy, but I do think there's a good chance Everton have rubbed them up the wrong way – it wouldn't be the first time we've done it would it? Whelan was compelled to call up Sky Sports News on deadline day last year in exasperation at way we were trying to sign McCarthy.
It must be like getting blood out of a stone.

133 Posted 24/08/2015 at 16:04:14
The normal market practice for paying transfer fees is to stage the payment in installments roughly in line with the duration of the contract the player is signing.
This was explained by one of LFC's former hierarchy (Christian Purslow I think) during one of the recent transfer deadline day specials on 5 Live. It's not unique to us.
I agree with your opening comment though.
134 Posted 24/08/2015 at 16:13:34
135 Posted 24/08/2015 at 16:17:04
Think about it: why would we move for another player, in the same league, from their fiercest rivals?! I don't believe for one second we thought half way through last season we thought "Hey, let's go scouting Ukraine for No 10s and creative players in the summer!"
By all accounts, we're still in discussions and the talk is now that Kiev want a replacement sorted first before letting Yarmolenko go.
So there's still a long way to go on this one; it could go down to the dying minutes of deadline day even!
136 Posted 24/08/2015 at 16:59:48
We need quality in the final third and this guy is somebody who can genuinely add to that area of the pitch. Bill and Co will have a lot of explaining to do if our transfer spend stays at what it is at the moment.
137 Posted 24/08/2015 at 17:28:05
However, he really is letting us down about South American and African leagues, clubs, and players. Get with it Colin. Everton can't be expected to scout its own deals can it?
138 Posted 24/08/2015 at 17:42:51
139 Posted 24/08/2015 at 17:47:03
As far as I can see, you're saying that you called a load of transfers which were pretty widely reported prior to them happening. Lukaku, Barry, Deulofeu etc were not exactly earth shattering pieces of information – they were linked with us interminably for months. Besic was another one which you called after the initial reports, and I distinctly recall you admitting at the time that you were only getting your information from a Bosnian football website.
Now there's nothing wrong with that at all, but when you start claiming to be 'In the know' people believe you, and you're clearly not. The deals like Mori, Rodriguez etc aren't out of nowhere as far as the club is concerned, they just weren't widely reported, and so you had no idea about them because you don't have any contacts, you just regurgitate what the papers say.
I'm sorry if this comes across like a personal dig, I don't know you from Adam and the rest of the stuff you post I usually agree with, but letting people believe you know the inner workings when you don't (and getting prissy when someone calls you on it) is unnecessary and a bit sad.

141 Posted 24/08/2015 at 18:19:45
As it was, Everton survived some of the usual defensive scares in the Soton game and eventually got the 3 points but a tough fixture against a much superior opponent albeit at Goodison (which hasn't exactly been a fortress over recent years) was looming and was always going to be an acid test which it ultimately proved.
The Blues still have plenty of room for improvement as we all know but how that happens is open to speculation so in the meantime, we fans, as usual will have to be patient as long as it's the Bill and Roberto show.

Oh, and please keep up the inside info from Spain Colin, it is quite refreshing.
155 Posted 24/08/2015 at 19:38:00
The Barry and Macca midfield axis seems absolutely sacrosanct whilst the back four (when they are all fit) and the front 'one' pick themselves. Cleverley and Barkley are only now working towards an understanding so it seems to me that only the right wing position is up for grabs.
There we have Mirallas, Deulofeu and McGeady all waiting for a game whilst the finishing touches are put to the return of Lennon. A truly ridiculous situation.
Meanwhile, the goalkeeper gets away with murder and the only playmaker on the books gets nearer to drawing his pension. Does anybody feel the manager has got his priorities wrong?

I might even renew my license and fly a biplane over Goodison claiming "Glassar is God" if we actually sign "a player" before the windows closes.
Meanwhile Elstone bungs 2 players on 2nd class tickets back to South America claiming they only came over to bring BK some flowers.....

More cash to splash due to enhanced Sky deal. Pre-season planned, no distraction this year. So boys and girls we wait with baited breadth to see what blue Santa will deliver us before deadline day.
Some of the other teams seems to have scouted some fab new players, nobody has heard of; some of the rich teams have bought some big names; we have been promised some additions, especially since we got rid of some of the older players and have a couple more past their best.
Yarmolenko looks quality, but Iike some of the other non Premier League players, seems a risk. Possibly a risk worth taking giving his credentials. However serious risk of being underwhelmed if he does not come off.
Other guys mentioned may become fab if we actually get them, but surely their are quality players in the UK who would be of interest to Everton? Surely we have some pulling player to attract say the best in the Championship or or other Premier League teams? There must be some nuggets along the Cahill, Jags andStones mold?
Anyway I digress, if Roberts and the board cannot deliver both quality and quantity this year I believe it will be a nail in the coffin. Quality players we do have will start to drift, a new name can lift the team and the fans and in past seasons a poor window has created apathy for all. So come on boys, do a deal and surprise us all...

Colin's tips have generally speaking been pretty accurate but I still take every rumour with a grain of salt. If you think transfers are simple and easy then have a look at other clubs dealings. Everyone is linked with every club. Look at Chelsea "stealing" Pedro when he was a dead cert to move to Manure all summer. It's like a massive version of that old movie The Chain" about several couples buying/selling houses and how they are interdependent.
Much of this will go down to the wire as both buying/selling clubs and players look to get the best option, Why don't we wait until the end of the window til we pass judgement?

183 Posted 24/08/2015 at 23:39:34
As long as he uses these tactics, we will struggle to be consistent as a unit. Because it's basically flawed, with no real system, and constant changes in the line-up; it doesn't add up to a coherent style of play.
So I can't see us buying yet more midfielders before the window shuts.
184 Posted 25/08/2015 at 01:20:47
Yaaaawwwwwnnn.
If this is the case and... if Stones leaves... surely there's riots?
185 Posted 25/08/2015 at 02:35:06
It seems very sensible that they are just looking for a player to replace him before everyone and their mother knows they just got a huge stash of cash. If this is just a ploy by Kiev to improve the terms of payment or hope for another team to come in and up the bid, that makes sense.
None of these things lead me to believe it's incompetence on Everton's part. Maybe this deal is completely dead and details come out to make us look like a club ran by a pack of morons, but it just makes too much sense that they would sell him. Hopefully this is just all bluffs from both sides that it ends in the deal still going through.... or maybe I'm just naive

But every hour I log on to TW or NewsNow > Everton.
Why do I do it to myself???

Like (Spragg #164) posted, has-been Lennon, yard-dog Evans and unknown Rodriguez. We won't even get the Brazilian dwarf Bernard.

It all happens out of the public eye, so no one actually knows what will happen by the deadline (may it come soon).

Must admit that I thought that we would still get this over the line, I was one of those who thought our pulling out of negotiations was a smoke screen to help push the deal through, not as confident today. Btw, can Barcelona even attempt to buy him with their transfers embargo?
195 Posted 25/08/2015 at 11:36:07
I come across a lot of agents with my work and some are the most devious people you will ever meet - very clever at getting their player the best possible deal by using the journalists who are under huge pressure at this time of the year to produce stories which will encourage punters like ourselves to buy papers to read about who just might be joining our club. It works – look at the number of posts on this site alone about who or who may not be joining us and we slag off the manager and board for failing to land players in whom we have no interest whatsoever.
Never believe what you read in the papers – only when you see the picture of the player wearing the shirt. The real stuff is moving along silently with no publicity – once it hits the papers, the agent is trying to get other clubs involved which usually means the player/agent doesn't fancy the first one.
Oh and hands off Colin Glassar – always a decent poster and the site is about opinions and not a platform for people to abuse others who don't agree with themselves.

Danny Halsall, I believe Barcelona can buy players, but those players cannot be registered, and therefore cannot play for Barcelona until January (I think that's when the embargo ends). I don't know if that means those players would join Barcelona and just train with the team until the embargo is lifted, or if the player would stay at their previous club until the transfer is official? It might be up to the player.
In my attempts to find a silver lining in all things (a New Year's resolution that I could be doing better with...such is the life of an Evertonian), this might not mean the end of the Yarmolenko situation. As Dave also suggested; this could be Kiev's counter to our counter - we say Bernard, they say Barcelona. We might be trying to play mind games with each other, which I've always thought Russian and Ukrainian people find more respectful rather than straight up negotiations - they respect you more if you're trying to be sneaky. I don't know if that makes any sense. Just my own experiences being brought forth.
202 Posted 25/08/2015 at 12:14:31
Talking to fellow Blues lately, different age groups, different depths of pessimism, I detect a change this transfer window. I can only describe it as general attitude of "this is too much, even for Everton". Could be the silent majority are beginning to get a bit whispery...
Final straw if Stones goes and no Billy Bigbollocks signing, methinks – Interesting to see if Stones plays tomorrow night.

If we don't land Yarmolenko, it will be a damp squib when he gets Lennon, and another promising South American that no-one's heard of.
I think this Stones conjecture is unsettling the whole squad behind the scenes, and JS feels he has to show clever play in situations where he simply should get rid.
Injuries are mounting too, so early in the season. We are in danger of unravelling. The hopes of a better season after the win at St Mary's will be gone if we lose at Spurs, with a trip to Chelsea to follow and a difficult visit to Swansea afterwards. We could be looking at 4 points as our total when we run-out at the Liberty.
We'd better get a lift in this next few days, because one more key injury (Lukaku for example) and we will be in a right mess.
211 Posted 25/08/2015 at 15:53:46
Now we are linked with Iturbi who is another player with tremendous ability and obviously will be wanted by richer clubs that us.
The Echo made the point about Barca and Yarmolenko then put the boot in by saying we were signing Hendry from Partick Thistle.
We are quite obviously the joke club of the Premier League which has taken a lot of pressure from the two north east clubs who are the usual ones who get laughed at.
There are now just a few more days before the cell door clangs shut and I will be able to forget about Everton and their hollow promises. This club has aged me in the past couple of months and I cannot even mention them without getting into arguments.
Martinez obviously will not resign as getting sacked gets him paid off.He, like all the players are contractors and Everton must be one of the safest jobs.We are busily signing players who nobody has ever heard of and kids who are well off premier league level, whilst every other club in the league are signing players who will improve their first eleven.
212 Posted 25/08/2015 at 15:59:29
The game is at home for Everton, on 12 September; kick-off at the ridiculous hour of 12:45pm.
213 Posted 25/08/2015 at 16:08:13
215 Posted 25/08/2015 at 17:04:39
There appears to be a lack of realism regarding signings that Everton could make. If, by some miracle, a player like Yarmolenko signs for us then great, but realistically it's not going to happen. What can we offer a player like this that bigger, richer clubs can't? We have no European football at all. No more than an outside chance of winning a domestic cup or getting a top four finish even if he did sign. All we have is PL wages and there are plenty of continental clubs that can double whatever we offer.
It's time to start facing up to the fact of exactly where we stand. We are a mid sized club in a poor provincial city. We have almost no prestige among the european elite clubs that would make a big name player want to sign for us. It takes us all our time to hang on to the good players we have let alone attract others.
We have to start going after the players we actually have a chance of signing instead of going off on these flights of fancy chasing after players we have almost no chance of persuading to sign but wind us up into a frenzy only to be disappointed when it doesn't happen.
We also have to stop pouring scorn on the players we are in with a proper chance of signing as "not good enough". They are good enough as long as we set proper priorities. Priority one. Don't get relegated. Players like Lennon, and Evans are good experienced pro's. They could go right into our side without any bother at all.
I'm already seeing criticism of the two South Americans we're signing and they haven't kicked a ball yet. But they didn't cost Uber millions so they are obviously rubbish.
Run the club properly. live within our means. Get good youngsters like Stones for decent prices and develope our own talent. If Barca can bring on youngsters so can we.
We have to stop living in the past. Since the PL started football has changed beyond recognition and we have to face up to the fact that other clubs, both domestic and foreign have overtaken us and it's not down to BK or RM. They have giant grounds, better locations, billionaire owners. Things that we can't control.
We're in the EPL. Assuming we don't do anything stupid that's where we will stay. Lots of clubs and their fans would give their eye teeth to be in our position. Isn't that enough?
216 Posted 25/08/2015 at 17:11:51
217 Posted 25/08/2015 at 17:21:43
I hope JS request is rejected point blank and we do not sell! A huge principle involved now! These footballers need to be stopped! He was happy to sign a 5 year contract last year so we should hold him to it!
218 Posted 25/08/2015 at 20:19:51
If you were a top class player would you sign for Everton? Or do you expect others to do something you wouldn't do yourself?

I expect no more notable signings made, Christ we have'nt even sealed the deal for the Mori lad yet, something that was meant to be completed in "24 hours" that was flippin Friday teatime.!!
223 Posted 25/08/2015 at 21:26:01
I hope not. Tell him he is going nowhere, and stick to our guns.
I suspect that they all knew he wanted to go, and thisi s why we suddenly started looking at South American centre-halves.
Poor management to let the two old centre-halves go and not sign anyone to replace them after all of this time.
This is going to fuck-up what is already looking like a car-crash opening of a season. I was already worried about Spurs & Chelski away, and now everything could really turn to shit.
I also think that Martinez has been hamstrung by the board, and his targets have been too pricey for our meagre war chest. This sale ( if it happens) will enable him to spend more, but in a total fucking panic, with every c**t knowing that they can ask top-dollar for whoever we want.
It's a shit storm heading our way, and it is only going to get dirtier.
224 Posted 25/08/2015 at 21:27:14
225 Posted 25/08/2015 at 21:30:21
Keeping hold of Baines was a great move by the board as he is vital to EFC and it showed we weren't going to be bullied by the money clubs or pressured by the press. We had to make the choice between cashing in on a player when his stock was at its highest at the peak of his career and keeping hold of him and seeing his value slowly decline as he neared thirty. For some players I would have said sell, but Baines is just too important to us.
Stones is a different story at 21. His stock is just going to keep rising. In hindsight we probably should have got shot of Rodwell sooner, but he looked like he could be special. Stones IS special and has proved that over the past couple of seasons. I don't expect him to stay at Everton his entire career, but when he goes it should be on terms that best suit us, both in terms of the transfer fee and in terms of timing. At the moment neither of those criteria are fulfilled.

228 Posted 26/08/2015 at 00:40:50
No doubt they're farting about with payment structure, ٣ a month till its paid off.
Our financial situation is preposterous considering we've been a main stay in the PL.
Re Stones transfer request - so fucking what!
Too late for us to replace him, he needs to be told he's staying till next season and if he wants to go he can put in a transfer request at the start of the next summer and we'll sell him to the highest bidder after the Euro 's.
There's no reason to sell him now, simply Chelsea should have come in with an offer of around 㿔 M to start with, instead of that derisory bs 㿀 m offer, and Stones (very disappointed in) should have shown more respect to the club than requesting a week before the window closes, as Chelsea have no doubt tapped him up to do in the hope that they get him cheaper.
Stones no doubt knows that he'll almost certainly been off next summer anyway, he could have given us one more season before resorting to this pathetic behaviour.
Rio with without inflation went for almost the same as is being bid, Luiz went for 㿞 M.
If our board sell him this season, I'll be very angry, if they sell him this season and for a penny less than 㿞 m in which the whole amount gets reinvested before the close of this window, I'll be fucking furious.
Simply, there's no reason for the board to sell, apparently it's Roberto decision, we keep being told that they're running the club so fantastically well that we don't have to sell, so problem over for this season... you'd think.
That is, of course, unless the board are telling porkies and will use the Stones request as an excuse to say we have to sell him, we'll then recieve the money spend about 50% of it and the rest will be forever lost into the "operating costs" again..
229 Posted 26/08/2015 at 01:35:01
While I'd have Yarmolanko all day long. He is more of a goal threat having a better goal record, and we don't have enough of them at the moment. I do think that Bernard could be the ready made replacement for Pienaar and Osman - a tricky player with very good ball control. We've got too many players that rely on physicality and power in their game. In this sense he might be a better option than Yarmolenko when playing centrally.
Also being leftsided rather than favoring the rightside like Yarmolenko, Bernard plays in a position where we are actually short. We already have Deulofeu, McGeady and Mirralas who plays on the right wing from time to time. Opposed to Pienaar, Henen (doesn't really count) and again Mirralas from time to time on the left wing.
So like the song goes - you don't always get what you want.. but sometimes you get what you need. So I think Bernard might be the player we need after all, and while Brazilians have been hit and miss in the Prem, they've got a better record than the Ukrainians and Russians as successful signings.
Tbh, I just hope we sign anyone in that price bracket who has some pedigree right now. Every other team has, WBA = Rondon, Palace = Cabaye, Stoke = Shaqiri. It's not really asking too much!

With all the shady and difficult to trace financial goings on at Everton, with loan facilities with offshore companies when we really shouldn't need them to fund operating costs... what makes you think it's harder for us to do that?
Backhanders are part and parcel of football and have been for years. They're called "Agent Fees", and it's not unusual to have more than one agent in a chain. FIFA just took it to new levels.

We will end up with perhaps Lennon and De Guzman on loan.
This boardroom of charlatans have made our great club a laughing stock and the Echo is now saying we are trying for Hendry of Partick Thistle. These are joke signings along with the Uruguayan for 500,000. I hate to see our club being ridiculed and I cannot blame Stones and any other of our players who may be worth money bailing out of this sinking ship.
Burnley have just paid ٧ million for a striker.Where is all the money we have made...?
