Intensifying Lukaku speculation is likely in vain

Talk in Italy of Romelu Lukaku joining AS Roma has been growing this week but Everton's likely valuation of the Belgian would make any such move a non-starter.

With his new "super agent" Mino Raiola on board, a man with deep roots in Italian football, constant speculation about Lukaku is going to be a fact of life for Evertonians and his recent link-up with Sergio Romero is fuelling chatter in the media in that country about the Blues' prize striker.

Raiola has been pitching the free-agent Argentine goalkeeper to Roma and telling them, as Sport Witness puts it, "talk to me about Romero and I'll talk to you about Lukaku too."

Furthermore, Gazzetta dello Sport have intimated that from Roma's perspective, Lukaku "shifts positions every day" over his future but, as SportWitness surmise, that could just be the impression they are getting from Raiola.

Football Italia, meanwhile, pass on Gazzetta's assertion that Lukaku "has one foot in Trigoria" as Raiola pushes him towards Roma as "part of a larger operation that could take Mattia Destro to Monaco."

The bluster over Lukaku to Roma is probably moot anyway given that the Serie A club are unlikely to be able to stump up more than half of Everton's likely 35m asking price.
