Ba looks destined for Tyneside
Senegal striker, Demba Ba, looks to have opted for Newcastle United after returning to England to finalise a move that keeps him in the Premier League.
The 26 year-old rejected an offer to stay at relegated West Ham and has been heavily linked with a switch to Everton but wage demands, rumoured to be in excess of £50,000 a week, have proved to be a major stumbling block.
An executive at Upton Park was quoted as saying that, "He was offered £50,000 a-week wages and a half a million pound signing on fee. But he decided to walk away. We think he may now sign for Everton."
There were reports, however, that Ba had agreed personal terms with Newcastle United and it's now being reported that he is traveling to St James' Park to put pen to paper with the Barcodes.

Demba Ba and Yakubu could trade places
Everton are still being strongly linked with a move for West Ham striker Demba Ba but the Senegalese's lofty wage demands are a major stumbling block for the Blues and they're unlikely to relent in negotiations.
That would leave the 28 year-old with Newcastle if media reports are to be believed but, faced with losing Ba, West Ham have rekindled their interest in Yakubu.
Everton rejected an offer of around £6m for the Nigerian last summer, a decision they probably now regret after farming the Yak out to Leicester on loan and then seeing his proposed permanent move to the Walkers Stadium flounder over his own salary expectations.

A throwaway line buried in another hugely speculative Mail 'Exclusive' has been doing the rounds of the internet transfer ghouls:
"Ferguson... senses Everton may finally be ready to relent over allowing him to follow Wayne Rooney to Old Trafford."

Three offers for Everton rejected
Three potential bids for Everton FC have been rejected in the past year according to a report on BBC North West this evening, two from the USA, including one investment consortium who owns a major sporting franchise, and one from Asia.
Negotiations with one of the potential investors, said to have "very deep pockets", went to an advanced stage before being abruptly halted for reasons that are not known. There has apparently not been much interest since the inquiry from the US in April last year, though.
Everton have refused so far to comment on the story which calls into question the Board's claim that there have been no serious offers for the club. David Bick, a financial investment broker, claims to have been approached by a number of consortia looking to initiate takeover talks with Everton.
A discussion on the topic is apparently slated for 7pm on Radio Merseyside this evening.

Given what a massive story this would be if it had even the merest glimmer of an ember beneath the wisps of smoke, it would appear to be fanned by the usual paranoia that runs riot among the supporters when there are signs that can be read as indicating trouble.

Improved Spurs Bid of £3M accepted for Pienaar
Everton have now apparently agreed a £3M fee with Spurs for the early transfer of Steven Pienaar, following reports tha they had earlier rejected an inadequate bid from the players' preferred destination possibly with a little bit of help from Chelsea... or not.
According to Jason Burt, the sense on Monday night was that the 28 year-old was set to move to White Hart Lane with Tottenham more willing to meet his wage demands. They had a bid of £2 million rejected by Everton last week. Talks with Chelsea also collapsed last Thursday evening because the Premier League champions would not pay the £70,000-a-week being demanded by Pienaar.
A third club, Juventus, were also in the running to sign the player but they had hoped to agree a pre-contract deal so that Pienaar would join them in the summer without a fee being paid. Everton, understandably, have been hoping to avoid this scenario.
The expected loss of Pienaar is a severe blow to Everton. He was left out of Sunday's squad for the Merseyside derby after informing manager David Moyes he was not in the right frame of mind to play but reported for training on Monday.

Mbokani move hits work permit snag
Everton's loan move for Dieumerci Mbokani has been scuppered by a failed application for a work permit according to rumours. The Monaco striker is apparently David Moyes's first choice to replace the out-going Yakubu who reportedly had a medical with Leicester City today and is on his way out of Goodison Park, initially on loan.

Writing on the wall regarding Pienaar
Tottenham continue to lead the race to sign Steven Pienaar with the latest reports suggesting they'll pay £1.5m now to land their man rather than risk losing out on him the summer.
The player's manager is keeping his options open but none of his comments offer hope for Evertonians that the South African will be staying at Goodison.
"Steven can play across midfield," says Rob Moore (Pienaar's manager). "He has played right midfield for South Africa and Ajax Amsterdam, and can play in the middle.
"Everyone has assumed that he will be heading for Spurs but that's not necessarily the case.
"Pienaar's sporting objectives and financial considerations must be balanced," Moore continues. "Maybe Pienaar goes to a club where he can earn a lot of money, but doesn't stand a realistic chance of fighting for honours. Maybe he earns a bit less, but has a better chance of honours. At 28, he still has big ambitions, and the next step is critical."

Bayern sound out Heitinga
There are apparently noises that John Heitinga could be let go this January transfer window in an effort to raise funds, with Bayern Munich already showing their interest.
The Dutchman lost his preferred role in central defence to Phil Jagielka at the beginning of the season and poor form in central midfield followed by niggling injury have kept him out of the team for the last couple of months.
Everton signed him for £6m a season and a half ago and they'd be looking to get at least that for a player who played every game in Holland's run to the World Cup Final last summer.

Adebayor and Santa Cruz as loan targets
David Moyes's search for striking reinforcements next month will likely be confined to loan acquisitions, with the Manchester City's Emanuel Adebayor and Rocque Santa Cruz the latest names being reported by the media.
Sadly, with Everton posing little threat to the top-four aspirations of teams like City and Arsenal — Nicolas Bendtner is also being linked with a loan switch to Goodison — players who are out of favour at title-chasing could be viable targets.
Moyes admitted in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Blues' trip to Eastlands that he would be interested of either player were available:
"If any of them became available we'd be interested but in this window there will not be enough to pick and choose from.

Rooney will not sign new contract
Manchester United have been informed that Wayne Rooney will not sign a new contract with the club, according to reports from the Press Association. The 24-year-old striker's current deal runs out in the summer of 2012 and it is understood negotiations over a new contract have broken down.
There has been speculation that Rooney will be sold in the January transfer window, with Real Madrid interested. However, United's response was to label that claim as "nonsense".

Moyes to swap Pienaar for Kranjcar
TalkSport claim that Everton will be prepared to let Steven Pienaar join Tottenham — as long as Niko Kranjcar moves the other way. Pienaar has yet to sign a new contract at Goodison Park and with the January transfer window looming, he will be able to speak to other clubs regarding a move away from Merseyside.
TalkSport claimed on transfer deadline day that Spurs had made an enquiry for Pienaar but Everton were not willing to do a deal. But following Rafael van der Vaart's arrival at White Hart Lane, Kranjcar's situation has changed and Everton have taken note. The Croatian midfielder moved to Spurs for £2M in 2009 and established himself in the first team almost instantly but he has since fallen out of favour following Van Der Vaart's arrival.
And despite the Dutchman's £8m move to London, Spurs are still keen on Pienaar - especially if they can get him for free in the summer. Everton remain adamant they will not budge on their current contract offer on the table for the South African and that stalemate could mean he will leave for nothing in the summer.
But having heard of Kranjcar's discontent at Spurs, David Moyes is now weighing up a swap deal in January that would see Pienaar leave for Tottenham with Kranjcar moving in the other direction. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will drive a hard bargain for Kranjcar and Moyes is unlikely to be able to offer straight cash for him.

Tottenham inquire about Pienaar
Tottenham have made a fresh inquiry as to the availability of Steven Pienaar, just as the transfer window is about to close. Harry Redknapp admitted a few weeks ago that his interest in the South African had hit a brick wall as far as Everton were concerned and David Moyes has been adamant that the player is going nowhere this summer.
The decision may come down to the player, though, and if he decides he wants to give it a go in London with Spurs then Moyes would be faced with a tough decision whether to keep a disgruntled player or sell him with no time to sign a suitable replacement.
Pienaar, the Blues' player of the season last term, has been been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing start to the new season and he came within inches of equalising at Villa Park yesterday when his curling shot came off the crossbar.
He would be a massive loss, but remains an Everton player unless and until something drastic changes in the next 18 hours.

But Everton manager David Moyes is not prepared to lose a key man, already aware that he may have a problem in hanging onto midfielder Mikel Arteta given Manchester City's efforts to sign him.
However, Arsenal are set to test Everton's resolve by tabling a revised bid of £16m

Everton linked with Yannick Djalo
Everton are the latest club to be linked with Yannick Djalo, despite the fact that manager David Moyes has downplayed the likelihood of any more signings before the start of the season next month. [Perhaps this is an old link being recycled? — Ed.]
The former Portugal Under-21 ace has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, where Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have registered an interest.
Sporting Lisbon are said to be willing to let the 24-year-old leave this summer, and they have lined up Real Madrid's Royston Drenthe as a replacement.
Record [?] claim Everton are ready to challenge for the signature of Djalo, as David Moyes prepares his side for a title at the top four next season.

City to come sniffing again?
Though there has been no contact between Everton and Manchester City over the Spanish playmaker, who has returned from the pre-season tour of Australia to marry in his homeland, the Goodison Park hierarchy believe Mikel Arteta's head may be turned by the prospect of joining countryman David Silva at the world's richest club. Silva on Wednesday passed his medical at City.
Everton will not consider selling the player simply for profit or to allow manager David Moyes the chance to strengthen his own squad. However, the Scot's encounter with the new-found wealth of City last summer has forced him to acknowledge the futility of keeping an unsettled player at Goodison.
Relations between Everton and City soured during the protracted saga of Joleon Lescott's £24 million move up the M62, with the player eventually forcing his club's hand by confessing his desire to leave. It is likely Arteta would have to do the same to be granted a move away.
Arsenal have also been linked with Arteta in the past, but City's wealth puts them in pole position to sign the 28 year-old should he tell Everton that he wishes to follow in Lescott's footsteps.
Everton would only consider selling the midfielder should they receive a premium fee for a player who missed much of 2009 with a knee ligament injury.

Nash to discuss Stoke move
Carlo Nash has flown home from Everton's pre-season tour of Australia to discuss a potential free transfer to Stoke City. Nash is out of contract this summer — which, combined with the arrival of Jan Mucha, begs the question why he traveled Down Under in the first place.

Gosling set to sign for Newcastle
Dan Gosling will agree to sign for Newcastle United on Monday — pending an appeal by Everton into his acrimonious departure from Goodison.
The England U21 international will join as a free agent although Everton's proposed appeal could force a fee of compensation to be paid if they were successful.
Gosling, valued at around £4M, plumped for Newcastle despite spending Friday in talks with West Ham and holding discussions with Bolton on Saturday. Sunderland were also interested.
Gosling, 20, was on £8,000 a week at Everton who made him a verbal offer of a new £15,000 a week deal but, as they did not put the offer in writing before May 30, a Premier League inquiry ruled Gosling was free to leave without compensation.
His first club Plymouth were also due a sell on fee.

Redknapp: Pienaar move unlikely
Harry Redknapp has indicated that it's highly unlikely that he will make a move for Steven Pienaar, whose contract extension at Everton remains unsigned.
"I like Pienaar, don't get me wrong," the Spurs boss is quoted by Sky.
"But there is nothing there. I wouldn't see that as being a real goer."

Aussie teen joins Sydney FC
Australian teen prospect Terry Antonis, linked with Everton just only a couple of weeks ago, has signed professional papers with Sydney FC... just days before the A-League side take on the Blues in the first friendly of their 3-match tour Down Under.
Marseilles and Inter Milan were also reportedly interested in the 16-year-old but the FFA blocked an overseas move under Fifa's new regulations restricting the transfer of youth players to big European clubs. Now Antonis hopes to make his first appearance for his new club against friend and mentor, Tim Cahill.
"We play Everton this Saturday," he says, "so it doesn't get much bigger than that and I hope to get on and play."
Cahill said: "He's a great kid and a very close family friend and someone that I feel is one of the rising stars of Australia. I love Terry — he's like a little brother to me. I train with him here. He was round my house on the weekend. I'll go down the park and have a kick with him. He's like family.
''This is a massive step for him in his career. It will be pretty weird playing against someone I admire a lot. He's a bright talent. I saw him when he was very young. As long as kids get looked after in the right way and can come through and be as good as they can be, that's the main thing.''

Newcastle sniff Gosling stinker
In a reiteration of the story carried in The People last weekend, Skysports.com claim that Newcastle are planning a shock move for Everton starlet Dan Gosling.
Everton risk losing highly-rated midfielder Gosling on a free transfer following a contract wrangle.
It is understood the Premier League have been asked to make a ruling after the England Under-21 prospect was not given a new contract offer in writing.
Everton claim they offered Gosling a rise verbally, but nothing was sent to him by the due date and he could be available for nothing.
The news has alerted a number of clubs to Gosling's possible availability and newly-promoted Newcastle are thought to monitoring the situation.
Newcastle do not have much money to spend in this summer's transfer window and landing Gosling for nothing would be a massive coup for the Magpies.
Gosling, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, is highly-regarded at Goodison Park and Everton are loathe to lose the 20-year-old.

Reports link Everton with Gyan
Everton and Blackburn Rovers are "in the running" for Ghana's star forward, Asamoah Gyan, according to reports.
The Rennes striker, who dumped the USA out of the World Cup with a terrific extra-time strike, missed a last-minute penalty at the end of extra-time against Uruguay by firing off the top of the crossbar. Even though Gyan stepped up in admirable fashion to despatch the Black Stars's first spot kick of the ensuing shootout into the top corner, misses by Mensah and Aadiyah prevented Ghana from becoming the first African team make the semi finals.
Gyan won plenty of admirers in South Africa and will surely have plenty of suitors now that his tournament is over, but he seems to have his heart set on the Premier League.
"It is my desire to play in England," he says. "I did so well with my club this season that I came to the World Cup full of confidence. I now want to show my ability in England."
